The zoo released an update this week on the zoo’s Naked mole rat colony. The queen welcomed three sets of pups over the last year, expanding the colony from 15 to 40 naked mole rats: The Naked Truth About Naked Mole Rats - www.akronzoo.org

2021 is set to be an exciting year for the zoo, with the opening of the Wild Asia precinct this year:

The zoo hours have went to 11am to 4pm. The zoo buildings along with Komodo Kingdom Cafe are now open after being closed since early last year.

Clawdia the blue lobster will debut on Saturday in the former freshwater fish habitat next to the Komodo Kingdom Cafe entrance in Komodo Kingdom. The freshwater fish have been moved to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The Akron Zoo has announced that Lehner Family Foundation Wild Asia will have its grand opening on May 29th. The exhibit features Sumatran tigers, white-cheeked gibbons, and red pandas.

Red wolves released in eastern N.C. - Washington Daily News

Four of the Akron Zoo's red wolf litter have been reintroduced in eastern North Carolina. This is the first time since 2014, captive-born cubs have been placed in a wild den. The USFWS has wavered on the program and reintroduction, but appears to be committed to at least sustaining it at its current small size.
