Akron Zoo Akron Zoo News 2022

Maybe they could make a mixed-species habitat that has tamanduas, prehensile-tailed porcupines, two-toed sloths, and red-rumped agoutis similar to ZooMiami.

I love that idea! Cleveland also has sloth, porcupine and agouti in a mixed-species exhibit like that... they formerly had tamandua with sloth and emperor tamarins as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if capybaras return. The zoo runs the SSP. They might need to wait for availability. Atlantis was on her own because she was not fond of other capybaras. I could see the return of capybaras at the zoo being located elsewhere. Their current habitat is not very big and is at least a third pool.

Capybara habitat is highlighted in yellow.

Seems like right now the biggest thing for a while Garden View Place. Wonder what'll happen after that until Africa II

Redo Curious Creatures. Add bird habitat to Wild Asia. Add to red wolf back area.

Another interesting thought. Could the next expansion open in phases. There will likely be habitats leading to the giraffe habitat. Primates for example.

Maybe the bird habitat in Wild Asia should feature rhinoceros hornbills. As for the primate
exhibit, maybe it could have either colobus monkeys and Debrazza monkeys or mandrills.

I have attached photos of the new tufted deer pool and the new Garden View Place animal holding building.

Very impressive. Were all the birds back on exhibit or were they still inside? Planning on making one more visit to Akron this year soon. Also has anything replaced the Capybara yet?

Birds are still off habitat. The bird pools are all drained. The capybara habitat is currently empty.
