Does anybody else find the numbers of hoofstock that Altina breed to be very high and unsustainable? Every couple of weeks there seems to be multiple births of various species.

Unless of of course they are eating them, then it would understandable...

As long as they are euthing over-represented and elderly animals, I'd say its very sustainable. Great to see a zoo like Altina keeping ungulate populations young and fertile compared to what a lot of other big-name zoos do with their populations.
 
most of their births have been common species that could go back into the general "farm" population, ie all the deer species. They also have plenty of hungry carnivores to cater for!

Bongo Antelope
Scottish Highland Cattle
Plains Zebra
white & Tawny Lions
Altina now have sent 3 Maned wolves to Hunter valley Zoo and 2 to crocodylus Park NT
 
where is the Bongo housed? Does it share an enclosure with anything else? Altina do have some fantastic wooded paddocks that would be great for the Bongo but make poor visitor viewing. Going by the list, Altina has 6 new species since I was there last June. What animals are next on the cards? They were talking of Red Pandas.

Capuchin monkeys have pushed in first.
And the bongo lives near the giraffe in the Lucerne tree paddock and loves it he is even coming up on horse drawn tours as well as behind the scene tours!
 
what happened with Altina's plans to import female hyaenas? (That's a question for tinkerbell really, because I doubt anyone else would know).
 
Altina just uploaded a photo of a pair of hyenas, so I'm guessing they've already arrived? The Facebook page doesn't provide much information. Hyenas - Hi Guys!!!

EDIT: My bad, I completely forgot Altina already had hyenas, I just immediately assumed they were new, woops.. :p

Cute photo. Third or fourth collection in Aust with Spotteds? Perth, Monarto, Altina. Does Gorge still have one?
 
Gorge no longer has a hyena. Only big(ish) carnivores remaining there are three dingoes (two females and a male) and one very old male black leopard.
