Amazon World have announced the opening of their new 'Wader Aviary', housing greater flamingos, scarlet ibis, white-faced whistling duck and mandarin duck, with more species due to arrive soon.

Information comes from the Amazon World Zoo Park Facebook page.

I see a previous message of mine has disappeared?
Though I will say ... I recently went on to Amazon World's website today, and was pleasantly surprised to see that many anachronisms I pointed out in a disappeared message seemingly had been taken to consideration - in that the number of species at Amazon World is given to now be at ~100 - as opposed to the 200 number they had on the website for many years. The animal list has been revised for 2023 - giant anteaters and plate-billed mountain toucans remain on the list, but ring-tailed coati have disappeared.
Even the page about conservation was updated so to match recent collection changes!
Nice updates to see all around.

Some News Updates:

19th July - Bert, the park’s 8 year old male red panda sadly passed away suddenly. He had previously suffered gastrointestinal issues since his arrival from Gdańsk Zoo in 2020 but seemed to be stable. His deaths leaves behind Xiao, the park’s lone female red panda.

10th July - a greater flamingo chick hatched.

A pair of emperor tamarin twins were born on the 21st of July to Cleo and Luigi. Both first time parents and a first breeding of this species for the park.

The park has announced that a Goeldi's marmoset was born on the 6th of December to first time mum Coco (10yrs) and Hamish (20yrs).

Some notes from a recent post re 2023:

Let’s look back at some of the highlights:
- Chepo a male Grey handed night monkey arrived to pair with our female Isabel!
- Our wader birds moved into their new aviary!
- Pygmy Slow Loris twins were born!
- 4 Sun conures joined the collection!
- Our Boa Constrictors, Rhino Iguanas and Tegu moved into their new enclosures!
- A Flamingo chick hatched!
- Emperor Tamarin twins were born!
- 4 Scarlet ibis moved into the collection!
- Our Caiman Lizard & Mata Mata moved into their new enclosure!
- A flock of Green Cheeked conure moved into our Parrot Aviary!

It’s was announced yesterday that Alves, the female giant anteater, passed away suddenly in February. She arrived from Colchester Zoo in 2013.
A postmortem revealed she died of a cardiac arrest brought on by undetected liver cancer.

This leaves the park without the species.

How sad, but what can you do! I hope they can re-acquire giant anteaters and perhaps get a pair together at some point.

Come to think of it ... reading the thread up: Quite a few unfortunate high profile animal deaths from medical issues lately (red panda, southern tamandua, ocelot and now giant anteater). It is unfortunate for this small specialised zoo collection Animal World!

I just hope they can fill in their spots in the not too distant future! For some, like red panda it may be easier than for others like tamandua or giant anteater though!

I must admit I am surprised how long they tried with the Bow the ocelot. He’s been undergoing cancer treatment iirc for quite some time.

Very sad news about the anteater but not a lot that could’ve been done if it was undetected cancer. I don’t believe they’ve ever announced what resulted in the death of the Tamandua bar a ‘brief illness’.

The Red panda ‘Bert’ was a particularly sad one too. Had gastro issues since his arrival but was being managed and then he died suddenly.

the Tamandua? As in they didn't have any more? or ...

A picture I recently found online taken 05, the only picture I believe that exists of the male quetzal which they had.
