3 yers ago the breeding-female Diana-monkey at Zoo Aschersleben ( Germany ) died and to keep on the breeding they started to search a new female for the male. This proofed to be quite difficult but last month a new female arrived from England. To get used to eachother the male and female were kept in enclosures next to eachother but during some small construction-labor the female managed to escape. A few traks in the snow and some sithings are everything what is left from the female. She is now dissappeared already for 14 days and the chanches to get het back are little.
This brings me to the question about other 'big escapes' from zoo-animals you know about.

Do you know which Zoo she came from, was it Howletts/Port Lympne perhaps?

Interestingly another female Diana monkey escaped in the UK, at Paignton Zoo- it was one that was born there. I believe it was shot.

Ther is a saying that in long established zoo, all animals (species)´ve escaped at least once.

The latest escape at the Dallas Zoo was two years ago. The two ringtail lemurs managed to escape. A guest came to me and asked if the lemurs were supposed to be out of their exhibits. As she said this, I looked around and saw one of the lemurs staring at me. I didn't know how to react because it was so unexpected. So I looked right back at it. The lemur then walked along the wooden fence surrounding the exhibit. It eventually jumped onto the walkway and headed toward the elephant fountain. Then a group of teenage girls met the lemur and froze. When the lemur walked toward them, the girls panicked and screamed. The lemur retreated and rushed up one of the trees. The other lemur entered its habitat again on its own accord. The one in the tree was lured back down with food.

When I visited south lakes wild animal park the lemurs were every where and followed me around, until the open topped trailer full of food supplies appeared and then they darted down grabbed much food as they could and jumped onto the store house roof to eat it. It made my day.
I think it was In George Mottershead of Chester zoo's book about animal escapes including Bison and penguins who regularly escaped after hours but went back of their own accord. (zoo with out bars is the book)
