To kick off this new thread I'll start the ball rolling with species I'd like to see at the Los Angeles Zoo no longer exhibited there, but once were. See how well you remember your zoo's once exhibited species list.

Well, theres not much I can post because Blackduiker has already mentioned almost all LA Zoo former animals. Blackduiker did forget to mention Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys, which I heard the zoo had in the 80's. Other animals would be Diana Monkeys, pygmy marmosets, Gelada Baboons, and Burrowing Owl.

Also, can any moderator fix the title of the thread? I think the real title is supposed to be "Animals No Longer At Your Zoo You'd Like To See There Again".

I'm just getting warmed-up. But this thread isn't just for the L.A. Zoo, it's anyone's zoo list of former animals you'd like to see at your local zoo again.
 
Columbus Zoo

For Columbus, my list is difficult because we will be getting almost all of these species back once we open Polar Frontier, African Savannah, Madagascar, and Central/South America.

Pachyderms: While the old building was cramped and hideous, I miss the collection.
- Common Hippo
- Malayan Tapir
- Warthog

Herbivore/Carnivore: A lot of these are coming back in African Savannah. I really miss the Asian Deer and I think they should make an exhibit near the current tiger and lion exhibit and where a shelter is now - there is an acre of land they could use for deer, or rhinos.

- Gerenuk
- Lesser Kudu
- Yellow Backed Duiker
- Bongo (I hope these go in Savannah, even though they are a forest bovid)

- Drills (We still have three, but they are not on exhibit)

- Giant Panda (We had them for a brief time period, but I think our zoo could handle these guys very well for a long period of time - plus they would push us higher on the "Best List" and would generate lots of money for conservation)

Hopefully some of the Australasian species can come back to the Roadhouse, and we just have to wait ten years for Polar Frontier, African Savannah, Madagascar, and Central/South America.

FYI - We never had a large Madagascar mammal collection to begin with but this new exhibit should be great!

You're right, I can't believe I forgot the sea lions! The bison and mouflon however don't need to come back. I like Sierra Madre and the markhor/snow leopard concept. Also I miss the siamangs. I still remember their calls echoing in the monkey house in the morning when I was little.

Animals No Longer at the Philadelphia Zoo (I'd like to see there again)

Ahh, the memories ...

The seals that visitors could feed ... the porcupine ... the aardwolf ...

The caracal, the binturong, the swift foxes, the barisingha deer, the gnu(s), the bobcats, the chimpanzees, the albino snapping turtle, the komoda dragon (it was just on loan for a summer, but I wish the Zoo had brought in another one) ...

The red wolf ... the timber wolves (a whole pack) ... the Asian elephants (Dulary specifically) ... the male babirusa that was moved to the Los Angeles Zoo and died of old age complications a few years later ...


and most of all, the Pallas' cats.

Oh yeah, I remember Pallas Cats at the L.A. Zoo. They remind you of the Cheshire Cat from "Alice In Wonderland." I'd like to see those back also.

And how could I forget Cheetahs and Nyalas? Aaah.

Remember Mstickmanp I'm an oldtimer, I was going to the L.A. Zoo decades before you were born. You have years ahead of you to see a lot of what the future holds. I'm just hoping to see the new exhibits like Pachyderm Forest, Reptiles and Rainforest of the Americas. I'm not that old but wish I were younger.
