Planet Zoo Animals That Planet Zoo Needs!

I think, if datamines and patterns are anything to go off of, we have probably 2 DLC packs left after this conservation pack. Assuming they do not do any expansion packs or change up the formula, one will be an animal pack and one will be a scenery pack. So I figured I’ll put what I would like if nothing changes and what I actually would love to see.
Nocturnal Pack: This would be the animal pack, most night house stuff is already in the game but maybe the update feature could be lighting control, also an excuse to get some smaller mammals I feel the game is truly missing
  • Slow Loris species
  • Kiwi (North Island brown maybe?)
  • Genet (large spotted or common)
  • North American Raccoon
  • Great Hairy Armadillo
  • Bushbaby species
  • Springhare
  • Exhibit: Cave Salamander species
Petting Zoo: While this would probably not be the most crowd pleasing pack to end on, it’s a part of Planet Zoo that’s missing and fairly easy to do a scenery pack with (simply a barn or children’s zoo theme)
  • Miniature Zebu
  • Vietnamese potbelly pig
  • Flemish giant hare
  • Boer goat or Nubian dwarf goat
  • Exhibit: Bearded dragon
I am personally not the biggest fan of a petting zoo pack, I wouldn’t be very upset if we got one but I would definitely hope it’s not all we got. Nocturnal pack I would love however. If support does continue beyond this year I would say an aviary expansion is a must. Frontier Dev has been doing expansions for Jurassic World Evolution 2 that are slightly more than the base DLC, which I think would fit an aviary pack extremely well. With an aviary pack I would hope we’d get at least a bird from every continent as well as birds that at least attempt to cover the wide array of groups within avians. Something like:
  • Bald Eagle
  • Brazilian Spectacled Owl
  • Australian Pelican
  • Scarlet Macaw
  • Bali Mynah
  • Budgies
  • Wrinkled Hornbill
  • Toco Toucan
  • Hammerkop
  • White-naped raven
I would hope support then goes on beyond this where we can get birds in the upcoming packs to add onto the expansion of 10. For that much I would hope for something akin to a Coastal Pack with multiple animals from coasts around the world.

Man, the Panther Chameleon is such a must-have that you listed it twice! Anyways, here’s some of my most-wanted animals for PZ:
Mammals
  • Baboons (Olive, Hamadryas, or Gelada, I don’t care, we need another African primate that isn’t tropical)
  • Black Rhinoceros (we have White, we have Indian, come on Frontier, give us the trifecta!)
  • Andean Bear (I blame the Himalayan Brown Bear for peoples’ distaste for new bears in Planet Zoo, anyways, another South American mammal, we need this)
  • Maned Wolf (another South American mammal, but it’s a dog)
  • Markhor (a Zoo Tycoon icon, and the Asian caprine we all need)
  • Wombat (more Australian animals, and this one burrows!)
  • Fossa (those lemurs are getting lonely as the only Malagasy animals in the game)
  • Wolverine (more mustelids!)
  • Sea Otter (the Sea Lion’s partner in Marine Manias of yesteryear)
  • Walrus (I just really like walruses, ok?)
  • Striped Hyena (we can totally have another hyena, this one is visually different enough)
  • Coati (a good small mammal to have)
  • Armadillo (another good small mammal to have)
  • Tasmanian Devil (imagine the sounds! Imagine!)
  • Peccary (the pig/tapir rig is called “peccary”, so please give us an actual peccary, please)
  • Sloth (highly unlikely, but I’m not against it)
Birds
Without aviaries:
  • Emu (another Australian animal)
  • Secretary Bird (bring back this African Adventure icon!)
  • Kiwi (New Zealand representation, please)
  • Shoebill (a good “meme-y” bird)
  • Roadrunner (meep-meep!)
With aviaries
  • LITERALLY ANYTHING (but spare a spot for the Rhinoceros Hornbill, ok?)
Reptiles/Amphibians
  • Sulcata tortoise (pretty much the only habitat reptile I think we “need”)
  • Marine iguana (highly unlikely, but a man can dream, ok? Also this is a habitat animal)
  • Chameleons (lizards are somehow less-represented than amphibians in exhibits)
  • Geckos (same as above)
  • Frilled lizard (refer to the geckos)
  • Literally any python (baffled we don’t have one)
  • King Cobra (we only have a scorpion and a leaf bug as Asian exhibit animals, WHY?)

Even though I've already spammed this forum with what I'd like to see in the future, I've made a more up-to-date and plausible plan for the next 2.5 years, up until the game's 5th anniversary in 2024. Finishing off 2022 would be:

05-10-22; Island Animal Pack
New animals:
  • North Island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli)
  • Desmarest's hutia (Capromys pilorides)
  • Coquerel's sifaka (Propithecus coquereli)
  • Reeve's muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi)
  • Maleo (Macrocephalon maleo)
  • Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii)
  • Goodfellow's tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus goodfellowi)
    • Lord Howe Island stick insect (Dryococelus australis)
It would also include some new foliage, such as the Norfolk pine and octopus tree, and enrichment items, such as false carcass feeders.
It would be a good way to round out the Oceanian roster of the game, whilst offering some much-needed variety.

15-12-22 Petting Zoo Pack (CONTROVERSY ALERT)
New mechanics:
  • Petting interactions between visitors and (certain) animals.
  • Playgrounds for children; elephant slide, gibbon swings, bouncy rides, tortoise trampoline, savannah carrousel...
  • Animal ambassadors (some can be trained by zookeepers; binturong, lemurs, sea lions, etc.)
  • Rideable animals; Asian elephant, Bactrian camel, Poitou donkey (CONTROVERSY ALERT)
New architectonic theme: farm/old west
New animals:
  • Kunekune pig (Sus domesticus)

  • Poitou donkey (Equus asinus)

  • West African dwarf goat (Capra hircus)

  • Mute swan (Cygnus olor)

    • Ball python (Python regius)
New enrichment items, such as salt licks, and new foliage, such as a variety of domestic crops and flowers, would be included.
I know not that many people are fond of the whole petting zoo angle, but I feel it would make the game more complete as a zoo simulator, and things like children's playgrounds and animal ambassadors are dire necessities, in my opinion. Don't feel too underwhelmed though; a huge change is coming next April...

I don't think adding rideable animals would make the game any more controversial than it already is.

The controversy was specifically stated to be about the animal rides though.
There was also a “controversy alert” right next to the name of the petting zoo pack, too.
Also:
I know not that many people are fond of the whole petting zoo angle
Which implies that a petting zoo pack wouldn’t be a popular choice.
Or it could be both that and the rides.

Or it could be both that and the rides.
Exactly; lots of PZ players aren't very enthusiastic about petting zoos, and animal rides in zoos has long been lampooned as animal cruelty, along with dolphin shows and such. (Oops, spoke too soon...). The controversy label is for anything that could be divisive among Zoochat members at large, Planet Zoo players and the general public.

I don't think riding or petting domestic animals would be very controversial among the PZ playerbase. I think the real controversy would come from players who want the game reserved for wild animals and would see a domestic/farm pack as a waste of a DLC. Personally, I'd be down for such an addition but I don't think it would be very popular.

Anyway. At this point, the game has a lot of the most wanted animals, so it's kind of hard for me to decide what I want next! I think what I'd go with are...

I really want more small cats! We still have so few. I'm flexible in what I'd accept, but I think the best choices would be the ocelot, the fishing cat, a caracal and/or a serval.

For exhibit animals, I'd love a tuatara and an orchid mantis.

Red fox. Surprised we don't have them yet. There are only two foxes in the game, both limited to specific biomes and regions. The red fox is iconic and it's versatile.

Wolverine. Also surprised we never got these.

Maned wolf. This would probably be a controversial choice since the game has so many canids already. But I think this one could work since it's visually distinct from the other available canids, and the game doesn't have any South American canid species yet so it can serve a purpose there.

Red river hog! I just think they're neat.

Ratel. Again, they're neat.

Coquerel's sifaka. I think the game needs more lemurs. I'm biased towards this particular species cause I grew up with Zoboomafoo.

I don't expect to get aviaries at this point, but PZ has given us some large birds that stay earthbound so I'd like to get more birds like that. Secretary bird is my favorite. A shoebill would be cool, and I think they'd be very popular! We could get some kind of stork, too. I think the Marabou stork would be the best choice.

Now, this isn't exactly an animal suggestion, but I'd love to get some ambient animals that just kind of work like decorative special effects. You put the effect wherever you want and don't need to manage them. So like, you can put koi fish in a body of water, or have a little swarm of bees or butterflies in a given spot. Maybe even hummingbirds or squirrels.

So, here are the two first DLC packs I'd like to see in 2023; now, the first is an extremely necessary, and therefore largely requested, part of any zoo, simulated or real;

05-04-23 Aviary Pack
New mechanics:

  • Flying animals; flamingos, cranes, peafowls and swans are now also included in this category
  • Wing-clipping (CONTROVERSY ALERT); like the contraceptives, it can be turned on and off for certain flying animals (more terrestrial ones, like those aforementioned in the previous point)
  • Aviaries; have them as a different option within the fences, with different resistance degrees. The roof appears once the perimeter is closed; its height can be manually adjusted, and there exist different options for shape (flat-topped, pyramidal, globe, dome...)
New architectural style: Futuristic (lots of steel and neon signs, in the style of something like Epcot's Tomorrowland)
New animals:
  • Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
  • Scarlet macaw (Ara macao)
  • Northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita)
  • Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)
    • Menelaus blue morpho (Morpho menelaus); includes juvenile caterpillar form
Also included would be new foliage, such as the Pachycereus pecten-aboriginum cactus, enrichment items, and a new bedding item; nests.

The next pack would bring about new animals from the rather unexplored alpine regions of the world;
25-06-23 Altitude Animal Pack
New animals:

  • Andean condor (Vultur gryphus)
  • Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus barbatus)
  • Pallas' cat (Otocolobus manul)
  • Golden takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi)
  • Aoudad (Ammotragus lervia)
  • Hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas)
  • Common rock hyrax (Procavia capensis)
    • Titicaca water frog (Telmatobius culeus)
It would also include new vegetation and enrichment items, such as differently-sized climbing rocks for caprines.

More to come, soon enough...

I don't like even the slightest the fact that you're encouraging a DLC of birds only, without even a free update, and a very small one too, we don't need any more themes for crying out loud.
Also it's no good to hide mechanics behind a paywall and it's something they've never done with the game

This is also an excellent idea. I'd especially love to see ducks, geese and other waterfowl, native to different biomes, converging on large, naturalized bodies of water, in non-dangerous exhibits. If Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 can do it, why not this?

Ok, I understand... maybe the flying mechanic could be in an update. It's just a general idea, IDK. Also, there will be more flying animals in the next DLC's anyway.

Yeah, I think if PZ did introduce aviaries, they'd make it a free update to the base game and have some kind of birds and bats DLC. By adding it to the base game rather than making it DLC-exclusive, they'd be able to include birds and bats in other DLC packs.

Alright, so in light of some commments, the new mechanics I pushed for the april DLC would be part of a free update. The new architectural theme gets canned, and in its place we have;

05-04-23 Aviary animal Pack
  • Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
  • Scarlet macaw (Ara macao)
  • Northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita)
  • Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)
  • Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica)
  • Greater sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita galerita)
  • Secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
    • Menelaus blue morpho (Morpho menelaus); includes juvenile caterpillar form

In any case, the updates for autumn and winter, capping off 2023, would be;
20-10-23 Nocturnal Pack
Goes with a free update which creates;
  • More accurate activity patterns for animals depending on ambient light and precipitation.
  • A greater effect on animals being in enclosed, window-less buildings (AKA nocturnal houses)
New architectural style: gothic/spooky; emphasis on a huge variety of dim, flexicolour lights.
New animals:

  • Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
  • South African springhare (Pedetes capensis)
  • European eagle-owl (Bubo bubo bubo)
  • Rodriguez flying fox (Pteropus rodricensis)
    • Common leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius)

30-12-23 Rainforest Animal Pack
New animals:
  • Knobbed hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix)
  • Victoria crowned pigeon (Goura victoria)
  • Keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus)
  • Red-crested turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus)
  • Mexican spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi vellerosus)
  • Linnaeus's two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus)
  • Red river hog (Potamochoerus porcus)
    • Monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia)
Both would also include new decorations, foliage, etc.

Why? Why? These birds work fine even without aviaries, why would they add animals that can be implemented without this particular mechanic in a pack apparently exclusively for this mechanic?
Look, calm down. These are just birds that the fans would like, and it's part of what I would like to see in the future. I'd love to know your opinions on animals you'd like to see added, but remember, this is just an opinion forum.
