The zoo has seen three gorilla deaths already this year; a crying shame.
What were the reasons for their death, is it officially reported?

I suggest people refrain from making wordings like "crying shame" at recent gorilla deaths at Antwerpen Zoo, best of all if you are not party to the full facts. Both other gorillas had reached a well advanced age when passing on. On the whole in fact the Zoo has had quite a good record of gorilla husbandry and the only zoo ever to have had a eastern lowland gorilla breeding group .. (which sadly when finally established lacked a new male for the greater part to make the group grow in numbers). At the moment the zoo staff remain in shock.
I do hope that when this has blown over and been laid to rest that the new gorilla group under Matadi may prosper and get 1 or 2 more females, so they can perpetuate a breeding group (in the new gorilla outdoor exhibit).
As do I, meant no offence in any way. It's just sad that they've lost three in the space of one year is all![]()
If you write ' a crying shame' then at least that looked like an offence.
Two gorilla's died of age, another after a series of incidents which where only avoidable by continually isolating this individual (which belongs to a highly sociable species).
