Whoa, this is big news for me! They're a bucket list (sub)species, now I wish I had known that when I was in Florida last year!
That would be the only North American zoo with forest buffalo. They are much more common in Europe, where you can see the species in at least nine different countries.
Yeah, since it is a safari park it means they are not always visible. I did not see them when I went a few years ago, unfortunately.....and the cost of entry is really high.
Are there any Iranian Eagle Owls [Bubo bubo nikolskii] in captivity in UK or anywhere still? I recall the ICBP had some in the 1990s
There are none currently listed in Zootierliste, although they were kept in 2 zoos in the United Kingdom
They are not. They were founded and are still owned/ran by Lex Salisbury who was the long time director at Lowry Park Zoo (now ZooTampa). It is a nice facility, even though it was founded under kind of dubious circumstances. The collection isn't terribly impressive, but the land is nice and the buffalo are of course interesting...if you can see them.
What happened to the nanus buffalo at San Diego?
They had some in Ituri Forest at one point, didn't they?

Allegedly the buffalo that were briefly in Ituri forest at ZooTampa were the ones that are at Safari Wilderness now. Lex was moving animals between the properties as he was Director at LPZ and Owner/Director at Safari Wilderness at the same time. The animal deals were part of the issues that culminated in him leaving the zoo.
Last individual died in 2016. It was indeed exhibited with the red river hogs in Ituri Forest.
