I've been compiling a loose, rough list of AUSTRALIAN (and Papua NG/New Guinea) animals held in UK Zoo's ,which are listed on zootierlieste website.. Although i will be aware that the site is not always correct or up to date, that it differentiates between the same species,or different species in collections,ie Western/Eastern Grey Kangaroo ,and as such, other members can update with any new additions.

I would've thought kangaroos would be more widespread, it's always felt to me like an animal a lot of zoos would have, so less than ten locations each is surprising to me. In regards to reds at Blackpool, the last time I was there in June they were gone from the wallaby walkthrough, and a keeper I asked said they don't have them anymore, but I may have misunderstood.

Can anyone confirm that Exmoor does indeed house three species of kangaroo, as I only recall ever seeing Reds - having said that, there may be some in the Wallaby Walkthrough, which I haven't entered since my first visit?

According a visitor review Exmoor Zoo (zootrips.co.uk) At least from their visit back in December 2022,and again in March this year,Exmoor held Eastern Grey Kangaroo's as well as the Reds that arrived that August. As for the Western Greys,i'd assume Zootierliste confused them with Easterns..?

Common Brush Tailed Possum are not held at BCA, Hoo or Chew Valley anymore. Only Hamerton and Merris Wood College in the Uk have them.

Hamerton no longer have Ground Cus Cus on show.

I’d love to see a UK zoo do a dedicated Australasian zone’, with all the above mammals, plus birds & reptiles. I haven’t been to Hamerton yet, but are the majority of their Australasian animals spread out around the park?

Northumberland Zoo has Sugar Gliders and Long Nosed Potoroo. Kirkley Hall (now going under Northumberland College Zoo) no longer has New Guinea Ground Cuscus unless they are off show.

The animals are in a few locations, but the Outback aviary (nicely) themed exhibit has free-flying zebra finches, budgerigars and masked lapwings and then views of the brushtail possum enclosure and the enclosure for the wombats as well as a window view of the cassowary enclosure behind the storks.

I'M SURE ZOOCHAT USERS CAN UPDATE THESE?

While I know Slimbridge has Magpie goose as I’ve seen one recently I’m surprised it’s listed as kept at all the WWT sites - can’t think where one would be at Welney for example unless it’s away from public view of course and not sure why they’d have exotics like that there but very happy to be corrected.

Black swan are also living wild in various locations in the U.K.

Lesser palm cockatoo are now displayed at Newquay Zoo after arriving on loan from Paradise Park.

Newquay Zoo now exhibit Brush-tailed bettong in the nocturnal house.

Australian White Ibis and Rainbow Lorikeets were on display in Chessington in April. (Location Lorikeet Lagoon)

I was at WWT's London Wetland Centre this afternoon and can confirm there is a trio of magpie geese there. Whilst on the topic of Australian waterfowl, I also saw a cereopsis goose there today too.

Good to know. I didn't see one at Welney. Be good to know if that's the only one that doesn't have it. I haven't been to the London one...is it good?
