Thanks for the responses , I knew others had contacted them so I didn't want to as well! I am considering driving down tomorrow and visiting somewhere else on the way, but don't really want a wasted journey

The exhibit doesn't have the water element that it used to and has been remodelled. Can't recall what it houses now, but it's definitely more land-based than semi-aquatic like it was for the Rakali. A shame as the Rakali were a lovely species that fit well at London

The exhibit houses tree shrews now.
 
I was at Axe Valley today, as the weather was reasonable for photograpy and I wanted to finish off some loose ends from my last photo visit. It was quite busy with mums & pre-schoolers (plus some dads and grandparents too of course) and I was surprised to bump into another veteran zoo visitor as well. I think I saw just about everything except the sugar gliders and Cape genets, which I saw in June, and the rusty-spotted cat(s), which I have never seen. I even saw the hedgehog for the first time. I am about to download my photos so I am typing this with my fingers crossed (metaphorically)

I did, as @FBBird has said above. Sad day to visit a collection for the final time, but the company helped to brighten the mood.

Some animals had already been moved on, such as the bush dogs and a few birds. Some species were signed, but unseen, so couldn't say if they were still present. Generally speaking though, the zoo was full of animals and people... Just a shame those people hadn't visited more in the past.
 
I too visited today - met up with TNT ans Pipaluk. Great company on a sad day. As TNT said quite a few empty enclosures, but late on I did see 2 Bush dogs just before leaving at 4.45. Big shame that it’s closing as always enjoyed my days there.

That’s a bit unfair, we can’t all keep on top of every thread and given the Paignton news (which is still pretty unclear) is just in the general thread of the zoo, it’s understandable that someone - particularly outside the UK - might not know.
 
Only just caught up with this bad news. I have not visited Devon since my final zoo tour of the south-west week in 2013 when I chose to go to Axe Valley instead of Exmoor as I liked it that much. It was forging ahead then; what a shame that is not still the case.
