Bali Zoo Bali Zoo

Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any information about the ocelot and golden cats? Names, ages, sex etc would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

Hi I visited Bali Zoo a few months ago and I found that the White Tiger enclosure was very small and not suitable for holding Tigers in today and I was wondering does the Zoo has any plans to renovate the enclosure or expand it? When I saw it there was two Tigers one was on the concrete next to the little pond in the middle with his tongue out looking so thirsty and hot and the white Tiger found a shady bit a was sleeping.

Most likely not soon. Despite many progress in recent years, the zoo still kept many of their older exhibits, mostly due to lack of space. Not to mention that the tigers are still one of their popular attraction, that specific exhibit allows feeding interactions for guests.

That is quite sad for the Tigers the ones in the Sumatran area has a better bigger habitat does Bali Zoo have any plans to upgrade any of there older exhibit? The Sumatran area is beautiful just saw one of the Elephants get waked with a stick and the Asian Small Clawed Otter exhibit needs a upgrade but mainly the Tiger, Javan Gibbons and Wallabies.

Not that I'm aware off. Their social media post are nice, but barely gives much updates or future plans.

Their elephant management are problematic for a "modern zoo" like Bali. The primate exhibits are one of their weakest part with those small aviaries that still remain to this day. A lot of the improvement mainly focus on certain parts of the zoos and also new exhibits, while not updating their original enclosures.

An TikTok video apparently shows an female lion has passed away in the exhibit. She was already unresponsive after being approached by the male lion. The caption mentioned that staffs had already try evacuating the dead female lion.

Poor lioness... :(
I feel it may have died from natural causes, since Bali Zoo's exhibit and animal enrichment are pretty good

Bali Zoo has released 6.6 rusa deers to the West Bali National Park ranges between four months old to seven years old, as part of the zoo's population control of the deers. The deers are planned to hopefully enrich the gene diversity within the National Park's population, as these deers were born at the zoo. The deers were released after a habituation period at the National Park since July 30, as they were introduced to the the natural diet, weather, and overall enviroment.

Bali Zoo's rusa deers population stand at around 58 deers, while the population in the West Bali National Park is estimated to be around 1,014 deers.

I visited Bali Zoo yesterday, and next to the Asian palm civet exhibit, I spotted a Blue-eyed Cuscus (Phalanger matabiru)—this seems to be a brand-new exhibit.

The only disappointment during my visit was that the Asiatic golden cat was kept in its indoor enclosure. I could see it moving around inside, but it wasn’t able to come out. Additionally, the information board for the Asiatic golden cat had been removed. I tried asking the keeper for the reason, but we couldn’t communicate effectively due to the language barrier. I hope someone can check on the Asiatic golden cat’s condition or communicate with the staff about this issue next time.

This is probably their most interesting addition in recent years hahaha, thank you so much for sharing this information. Still remember how many cuscus that you saw?

I assume it could be some checkups, either on the cats or the exhibit, or both. I also recall their ocelots being sent to Jagat Satwa Nusanta (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah) in Jakarta some months ago, so I also assume that there's potential of it being related to that as well. Its still better to ask the staffs there for better informations.

It seemed there was only one cuscus—I wasn't sure if I had missed any others, as the sunlight was extremely intense and impaired my vision. Luckily enough, it was somewhat curious about visitors and opened its eyes to look at me.
