Snow Leopards have bred again: Twins born on 18th June, sadly one has since died but the other is said to be doing well
Snow leopard cub born at Banham Zoo - News - Norwich Evening News

Confirmation that the cub was a DNS sadly. Statement issued by the zoo via Facebook today :(

To all our followers, we are so sorry to be posting this a couple of weeks after the event but we have sadly had to put our snow leopard cub to sleep. We wanted to wait until we had the full report from our vets. Our vets have confirmed that the cub had microphthalmus (abnormally small eyes) and was blind in both eyes. It wasn’t until the cub started to leave the safety of the cubbing box that the keepers were able to detect the problem. Unfortunately there were additional complications that would need hands on treatment throughout the animal’s life and this would simply not be possible in an adult cat.

Looking at I would say new build,un-less they have used the build that they do the animal encouters in near the Bird of Prey area and the Shire horse stables!

Visited today for the first time in over 3 years, had a good day & the zoo was busy.
Main bits of news were the birth of Sambirano Lemur twins on 28th May, never seen them quite that small and the tiger house was barriered off with a sign saying the female is in the cubbing den as births may be any day.
Also they recently lost the entire pygmy marmoset family to a mystery illness.

0.0.2 cubs were born earlier this week... very early days but everything going to plan so far

Any ideas as to when the cubs would be out and about in their enclosure guys?

ie. best time to go and see the little guys?

google seems to suggest that in the wild they would stay in the den for about 2 months, any thoughts?

Sorry to ask, but why add this to a 4 year old thread when all 2013 news has been posted to that thread started last year?

I was trying to divert to this thread in order to save opening a 2014 one just yet :o but feel free to start one when needed

Sorry, can't see the logic of 'diverting' to this old outdated thread! As this arrival occured in 2013, i don't see why you didn't carry on the 2013 thread with this news(like you did in the case of WMSP!).
Never mind, i don't want to start a debate!

Does Banham now intend to re-breed the species?

As I said above, despite several different males and females arriving over the years, I don't think Banham have ever actually had a foal born there. Correct me if I am wrong, someone.

The new male Ocelot, received from Amazon World, has now been mixed with the resident female, with both now onshow.

The 2012 studbook records that the last foals at Banham to pass 30 days were a female born in 2002 (who then went to Praha two years later) and a male foal who made it to 7 weeks old in 2003. There were other births prior to this but few surviving past the first year...
