Best and Worst Zoo Maps

The map for Taman Safari Bogor is almost useless. Very simplistic and only highlight their animal shows and rides, then barely shows their animals.



On the contrary, the map for Gembira Loka Zoo is mostly accurate and helpful to show how to get around anywhere. Aside from incomplete informations (No sign for their squirrel exhibits) and simplistic designs for the zones areas, it's generally a better and more helpful map compared to most other Indonesian zoos.

Do you not think artists are people? Do you not realize it took someone time, and its likely they earned money, to create those pieces of art. They don’t just spawn from the depths of the internet, they are someone’s work. The art you are talking about, AI are the same steps in the wrong direction towards a loss of creativity. But to go and claim that they are one in the same is wrong, there is a chasm between the two. And because the effort to make the map when choosing between online or AI art is nearly the same, it is the ethical responsibility of the consumer to support artists and their work, no matter how nice it may look to you. The whole point of the thread is the art of the map (silly again I know), AI art cannot substitute the work of any human, because AI can’t create art.

Someone in the past made that art, but I would be shocked if a single person with clipart on a zoo map received any compensation for it.

Frankly, I don't like AI art. I see it as a bad thing. However, I don't blame places for using it, as in our current (broken) copyright system, AI images are public domain, and thus some of the few images for which there is no concern about being sued for using it.

That being said, I do see their use as very unprofessional, though I would say the same about bad clipart tbh.

FYI this was the old TSI map from the late 2000s-early 2010s, and I used to had one back during my 2013 TSI visit. I like this map more because it's much more informative than what we got now.

It's not perfect, but certainly better than what we got now. Also, it's weird that they never really put Kampung Papua on their map.

This is such a good map that I love to take home. Super informative.

The new map does not even map out the animals correctly at times. I remember you'd meet the Giraffes BEFORE you go to the lion exhibit.

The colobus/gibbon chimera, the warped wildebeest, the white rhino with weird lumps, need I say more?

I'm partial to the "Texas Horned Lizard" that is a spikey shelled chameleon with old-timey dinosaur feet.

Yeah, but at least they got almost all of the animal exhibits marked there. Thank goodness someone scanned it, so it may be helpful for those who want to go to TSI.

For what it’s worth, I suppose that the Chattanooga Zoo’s most recent map is quite the update from its previous design (see below).



On a side note, I’m also glad that Chattanooga didn’t use the infamous technique that Caldwell adopted for their recent map (using AI), so props to them for making a choice in the right direction.
