Birds of Paradise in captivity

"Taken off display" does not mean it isn't still present, however. ;) Jurong and Walsrode would only be listed for half the species they are right now, and ACTP and Al Wabra wouldn't be present on the list at all! That'd give a very deformed view of the current status of the species...

Either way, thanks a lot for all recent updates, everyone!

San Antonio does not house Red Birds of Paradise any longer. The safari park also has magnificent's housed off display in their avian propagation center.

Adventure park in Port Moresby has raggiana bird of paradise. There is a zoo in the village of Lae in Papua New Guinea called the Rainforest habitat that has a collection of birds of paradise, but I do not know what kinds other then perhaps Blue bird of paradise.

How recent is this information? Mine is accurate up to Tuesday.

I thought this was the case too, but I guess there are just the two left. It is worth noting that the remaining birds in Europe are (according to ZTL) the same subspecies.

It's my understanding that the European population is of the same blood as the US one.

Yes, it seems they originated from San Diego. They were previously listed as non-ssp on ZTL, I believe, so I wonder what prompted the change. I still think it is feasible for the two pure individuals to be hanging around. It's happened in other populations that are primarily hybridized, such as klipspringers, of which there are a few pure individuals hanging around.

the photo is from 2012 I think. (The copyright 2017 under the photo is not when it was taken).
Thanks, I figured that it wasn't taken in 2017 but didn't know where to find the correct date. In that case, it still falls within @Vision's 5 year cutoff.

Thanks immensely for the help, yet again, everyone! I'm going to try and look into Lae's The Rainforest Habitat to figure out what species they have. :D

EDIT: not much yet, but Gerben did find this picture of a blue bird-of-paradise in TRH (3. Male Blue Bird Of Paradise [Paradisaea rudolphi], Rainforest Habitat, Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea). We're not sure if it's a wild or captive individual, however.

Thanks for creating this thread Vision, whilst I don't have much interest in B of P, but this is a superb thread just wish some of the other species threads were as good as this, instead of turning into a top trumps I have seen this what have you seen thread!!

A true master class in how to do a thread like this!!

It occurs to me, not for the first time, that the Trumpet Manucode at Zoo Berlin is potentially the most photographed Bird of Paradise by zoonerds :p it would be nice to think that the ACTP would see fit to send one or two BoP to Zoo Berlin when the manucode eventually dies, but I fear the latter collection will lack the inclination to go into another species.......

also at Adventure Park in Port Moresby (which is not the same place as the Port Moresby Nature Park).

it's captive - Lae is on the coast, and there are no Blue Birds of Paradise there.

I tried finding out info on the Rainforest Habitat's species a few years ago and got almost nowhere.
