Birmingham Nature Centre Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park News 2022

Does anyone know when the baby sloth was born? I hadn't spotted the news and was surprised to see them today.

Am looking at taking a visit to BWCP soonish, and going through their website it says to book a date/time slot (as per pandemic times), but on the booking page everything is showing as 'not available', even going ahead to November. Do any of the locals (@Brum ?) know if you still have to book, or can you just turn up now? Or does the system just hate people trying to book as a single adult visitor?

Edit: Scratch that, dates are showing up now!

I was there recently, I didn’t book, I just turned up.

@Crowthorne are you planning on visiting any other collections whilst you're in the area? If so then just wanted to warn you that the Under 5's day at Dudley is on Wednesday 29th & Thursday 30th June this year. ;)

Hehe, thanks for the warning! Wouldn't want to get caught again :D I'm kinda local now, living the East Midlands, so hoping to visit the Birmingham collections more often. Planning on combining the BWCP with the Lapworth Museum this time; longer term a return trip to Dudley is definitely in order, along with a trip to the SeaLife centre for the Sea Otters

That's a really great museum. I studied at the University of Birmingham so have visited a few times. It's not very big but is really good quality (in my humble opinion) and have managed to spend nearly an hour there before. Make sure you visit the 'crystal room' upstairs too.

I've also combined it with a visit to BWCP in the past; popping in on the walk to BWCP after getting off at University station.

Made it to the zoo yesterday afternoon, and it was nice to be back after 3 years. Thankfully the rain held off!
  • Pete the Komodo had his fortnightly feed, which attracted a crowd of school children.
  • The Bush Dogs showed well at the end of the day, as did the Ocelot
  • Really enjoyed both nocturnal houses! Very active Pottos, Dourocoulis and Northern Luzon Cloud Rats in the main one (even the Sloths were active!). The Loris House was small but very well done, the Grey Slender Loris were moving around on the second visit, the Pygmy Slow Loris was a ball of fluff both times, but visible.
Can also recommend the Lapworth Museum of Geology if you arrive via train at University. Lovely Museum, well laid out and with some great specimens, especially the trilobites and a cast of the young Allosaurus 'Big Al' (not labelled as such, but the skeletal injuries match up).

Nice visit here at the weekend love watching the capuchins saw there latest addition, also it’s being revealed today that they have a friend for mo their male red panda (we saw her lol) and most surprisingly we saw the otters there is now 4 don’t know when this happened as I must have missed their birth, saw the bushdogs but only 5 so don’t know where the others are as they did have a lot more last time we went, Mum looked quite big again so not sure if she’s going to produce more x

Watched the live video chat today where they introduced us to their new female red panda called aria from curraghs wildlife park, also they had 2 otters born June/July and unfortunately 2 of the recent bushdogs pups died this yr so they have a family of 5 currently

I went yesterday and got a season pass (we been once before in August).
It's the only place I can get to myself relativaly easy by bus, so it'll be a nice thing for me to do to have some me-time.

Saw the mama sloth and her baby, and 2 others, all 3 were quite active really.

Aria was asleep for all 3 hours I was there, completely on one end of the enclosure, the male all the way on the other end.

I've just been browsing through pictures in the media section, is it still the same Lynx they have, or is it a different one?
I'm very curious by nature (lol), and am wondering what might have happened to her eye? *blush*

I nearly went yesterday, but did Exotic and Gentleshaws instead.

From a post in the 2020 thread I see there were three siblings, but one died. I don't know if there are still two, but when I've been previously I have only seen two at a time, I think.

Thanks. Both times I've been now, it's been the same one.
It said it was going to rain today, but it's very sunny, otherwhise would have probably went again.
Maybe tomorrow, or next week for my birthday. Take advantage when the sun is still out ^^

Can you remember to state species please, not everyone is familiar with the names of the animals. Thank you :)
