I've seen Hooded Cranes, my missing species are Siberian and Whooping.

I thought they would be the two species you haven't seen....

I think I have seen the Siberian- if they had them at Delhi Zoo in India.

I have definately seen Whooping Crane, many years ago(late 1970's)at San Antonio Zoo, Texas. They are TALL!!! I believe these were the famous pair 'Crip' and 'Rosie' who featured in the conservation story of Whooping cranes. I'm pretty sure the male was 'Crip' anyway, as he had the damaged wing.

I remember they had a nest right by the enclosure fence. When I went back later on she had laid an egg. Nobody seemed overly excited though.

As Blackbrook have acquired so many pelicans, are they attempting to breed from them at all, or are the birds still too young? I don't know much about Pelican breeding in captivity, am I right in thinking that only the Pink-Backed has bred in the UK? (At Longleat and Possibly Bristol).

I hope they manage it, it would really be exciting to finally see a collection breeding several pelican species.

well fingers crossed for the next few years they started to use fresh water fish for the fresh water pelicans to inhance breeding colours.

I had a great time at Blackbrook, I saw all the 78 pelican species. I saw one of the three pairs of Kelp Geese in the UK. I saw 4 new crane taxa and the Cape Stone Curlew.

None of the Canada Geese were labelled, excepting the Cackling Canada Goose, so I photographed all of them and will try to match them to subspecies later. I could recognise the Giant Canada Goose, it was huge.

A surprise was seeing African Pygmy Geese, I last saw these birds 20 years ago. Also in the aviary was a Black-headed Duck, which I didn't see.

I saw my first Squacco Herons, but there were no Hadada Ibis. I saw American White Ibis but an agressive Horned Screamer put paid to any thoughts I had about approaching right up to the wire, and the ibis stubbonly stayed right at the back. They couldn't have picked a better spot to hide from a photographer.

I spent a total of one hour looking for the marmot, she did not show herself.

The two turacos I would have liked to see were not there, and the only pheasant they had which I've not seen, Germain's Peacock, also stayed hidden.

I nearly missed the Black-necked and Florida Sandhill Canes owing to work in progress on the penguin pool, but when the builders opened up the pathway around 3pm it was possible to see them. There are now 2 pairs of Greater Sandhill Cranes.

I thought it was a great place, and took around 90 photos. I can't wait to get them back. I'll post my good ones, (my bad ones too if anyone wants to see some terrible shots).

I did find it strange though to see so many aviaries in the car park, so I left 30 minutes at the end of my visit to look at those. Many pheasants and owls are kept in these blocks, but also some kookaburras, seriemas and a few other species.

The cassowaries were housed together and the red kangaroo baby has begun to show itself.

Now that I've made the effort and visited, I hope to go regularly. It's almost on my doorstep.

What turacos didn't you see? They may have left the collection.

I found a good way to see the germain's peacock pheasant. You need two people. One stands near the back of the aviary (where it's fenced off!!), and the other person (the photographer) stands at the front. This will make the pheasant come out of the back section of the aviary, and move to the front. I saw the male three times in this way!!!

What did the penguin pool look like?

About the marmot, would you like me to e-mail you a picture of her? I'll put it on the gallery too.

I was actually in water world in Stke on trent today. I could have popped over and said hello!!

What were your favourite bits and least favourite bits of Blackbrook?

I didn't see the Buffon's and Purple-crested Turacos.

The penguin pool looked like a hole in the ground. With a JCB and a few workmen doing building-type things. The pool part seems to be behind the owl aviaries.

I would love a picture of the marmot. Thank you.

There would not have been any point if you wantying to say hello to me if you were in Stoke today, I was not in Stoke myself.

I liked all of Blackbrook, I can't think of anything more than that which I've already posted. The lack of labels was a bit of a problem. I'm not much of a watefowl expert.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Waterworld.

glad you had a good day bongo and hornbill What were your favourite bits and least favourite bits of Blackbrook?

I like all of it, except the fact that it no longer has yellow billed, lesser adjutants and painted storks. I know that moving them was for the best.

Couldn't blackbrook become a WWT centre? Then people would expect the amount of Waterfowl. I love the Steamer ducks. They are so funny!

Another minor complaint; I can't understand the map. I know my way around, but my friend, Fodders, who came with me, Couldn't understand the map.

I found it easy enough. I still haven't got used to Chester printing their map upside down though. May years ago Whipsnade had someone re-design their map and the finished article had a lot of things missing. When they asked why the designers replied that if they put everything which was in the park on the map, visitors would become too confused.

Howdy all havent been on here for a few weeks been busy.... (mostly down to vista been a pain)

Glad you had a good day bongorob it was my day of when you visited so was not able to say hi
