Blackpool Zoo Blackpool Zoo News 2022

Does anyone know if there are any plans for Maisie and Moanda the young Female Gorillas to move? They are 12 and 8. This is the age that Females typically leave their material Family. @Pertinax (The Ape Expert) and @Gigit do iver of you know anything?

I've just got back from my first visit to Blackpool Zoo in sixteen years, and had an excellent time! Easily one of my favourite zoos now. Here's a few notes from my trip:
- I was a few days late to see the lions and tiger before they moved, but I definitely will be back when they return.
- This visit marks the first time I've ever seen a giant anteater awake and walking around, even though they were on the far end of their enclosure I was still so happy to see them!
- the World of Wings aviary is open, a keeper in there explained that they were given the go-ahead to re-open with foot baths at the door, which surprised me. I've been to other zoos with aviaries similar to that one where they're completely closed off. Either way, I saw a good range of birds in there, including ibis, spoonbills, inca terns and rainbow (I think) lorikeets in their own separate cage.
- I was lucky enough to spot one of the Iberian wolves running around, but there were a few people on the wooden viewing deck looking down into their enclosure going "AWWOOOOOOOOO!!!!! AWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor thing.
- I didn't realise this until looking at the map again after I left, but there was a section I missed entirely, the red river hog and sitatunga enclosures next to the farm animals. I'll have to remember that on my next visit.
- Project Elephant Base Camp is a massive improvement over the original enclosure, it is just fantastic! The elephants look much happier than I remember them being before, the enclosure is well-designed and I liked the mist in the indoor space.
- It's a shame there's no proper reptile house any more (unless there is and I missed it, I just remember reading on Wikipedia that the original closed in 2018), but for what there is, the zoo still has a good reptile line-up, better than many other zoos I've visited lately.

Red pandas Kai and Ember (born 18/06/21) have left the zoo. Kai has gone to Wingham, Ember’s location hasn’t been revealed yet.
Has it been said if the zoo is getting any new red pandas, or are they being replaced with something else?

I'm going here on Wednesday oy will be my first visit since 2019 has anything changed on the zoo since then other than the big cat house closure.

New kea, lovebird, meerkat/mongoose enclosure up near the aardvark. Green aracari arrived recently, being housed in World of Wings. Few wallaby joeys now appearing.

Great thanks
Does anyone know how many sea lions there are now. In 2019 they had 10 but I know that Hugo has left. Have any others left or arrived

I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Male Orangutan at Blackpool Zoo,is Jin or Blayan. These Males currently reside at Wingham Wildlife Park in Kent.

About time too!
They can't bring themselves to actually state the reason he's leaving, which is because he's a non-breeder...they could(and should) have moved him a long time ago I think.

I do think they could afford to be a bit more honest about the reason for the exchange, instead of fudging it as in this statement. Why can't zoos be more open and straightforward with their explanations?.
