There was once a plan for some rocky area with bighornsheep, puma etc. An extention on the oceanium devoted to surinam wildlife (probably incl giant otters), also moose would be added near the bison. But that was all a long time ago, so it probably changed a 1000 times already
Some recent news;
scarlet ibisses bred in the zoo for the first time;
According to some volunteers one of the hyenas is due to give birth any day now. The lioness is pregant as well. And there is a tiny chance the tigress is carying to.
New is a group of 6 or 7 swamp(?)wallibies. (W. bicolor)
The tukan chicks have grown quite a lot. And they are now in a sort of kindergarten. 8 of them together.
New male okapi Kitabu (stuttgart) is doing well. He shared enclosures with all other individuals by now. Even Camilla seems to accept him. Camilla is a bit of a difficult animal. She is imporant for the breeding program, but she never bred so far. the other male in blijdorp, Tom, spend quite a lot of time with her, but she is not very friendly with him. She chases him away etc. she doesn't scare of Kitabu (yet?). So maybe good news for the future.
kitabu on the left, camilla on the right. Kitabu is still rather small. He probably needs to grow a bit before he can mate with a succesfull result, but i already saw him try to mate with another female, Demba.
