Bonobos in Europe

Thanks Pertinax.

Yes, he could play an important role in the Europian population. Could. Depending on different other factors. But a wonderful try.
Although efforts were made in the past to realize the same circumstances.
Its good to hear that he has made this move to a breeding programme after such an unusual past. Hopefully at 40-45 years old he's still able to contribute his genes to the population- we know he is a breeder anyway...

Is it really the case Congo lived alone for one year? At Zoo de la Teste.
How has he been housed?
Inside? Outside enclosure?
Could he hear the chimps? And the hybrid?
What has been his situation at Romagne? Why has he not been integrated at Romagne?

What will be his future?

Which animals will go to Hungary, Tsjechië? In the near future.

Congo is almost of the same age as Mobikisi. Is there any chance they came from the same transport out of Africa?
Congo seems me to be a small male. A small bonobo. Not like Desmond once at Antwerp. Just more like Zuani.

In the circus, and in La Teste he was alone. I understood that he had no outside cage in La Teste, but I do not know more about this situation.
He was because of the fires near La Teste for a month in Romagne, alone, next to the hybrid/female and a view on the other bonobos. For various reasons, some political, he could not stay in Romagne.
His future? Well, if all goes well he will breed in Stuttgart with several females and stay there the rest of his life. But anything can happen.

Ages of wildborn animals are just estimates, and little chance that they came from the same shipment.

Just for clarity, Even if Congo would not sire offspring naturally, the scientists did write a paper on elektroejaculation. So theoretically it's possible that via IVF or artificial insemination or so, offspring could be produced. However the prospects of a new potential founder are super exiting as well as the fact that hybridization did occur or can occur in the genus Pan.

Well. Who is the one who imported Mobikisi and imported Congo? Maybe something about that is still known.

Today, 8-year-old bonobo female Ayebi moved from Apenheul to Zoo Frankfurt.

Goodluck Ayebi!

As stated by Het Apenheul also the born sons should leave their natalgroup at the same age.
Is anyone familiar with this policy? And when will start the caroussel of moving all these males out of their group in which they have been born and raised?
Must be a lot of work!

Most male bonobos remain in their natal group (EEP page 53). The EEP also states that holders should count on keeping male offspring long term. So I have no clue where you saw this info. However when they do move males they usually move part of the family with the males. So their mothers or so are integral to the move because they help them gain influence in the group. So moving them around is more rare.
Cases like with Congo are even more rare where an individual male get's moved around. However since this is a potential new founder and no family exists this happened. A move you might be familiar with is Zamba with his mother Hortense that moved from Apenheul to Planckendael.

So I have no clue where you saw this info.

Well, it seems to be announced by Het Apenheul, themself. It was stated in the announcement of the move of Ayebi to the financial capital of EU. Daughters and sons will move out of their natalgroup at the age of eight.
We will perhaps see soon the move of Habari, Mokonzi, Kikongo II, Moko II out of Planckendael. And after five years Vyombo will go on his own.

The info that sons move as well is most likely a mistake from Apenheuls press department.

I think it's a mistake since the page has been removed. However If they will move males it's rare that they don't move more of the family.

Apenheul has since updated the post to that only daughters leave the group at a certain age. So it was probably a mistake by the press department.

Her first daughter WOLO died from a flue, her second daughter XEKELE is around her.
Her daughter Xekele died due to a severe cold.(sometime between November 30 and December 6 - i have no exact date) They did not gave an official statement about this, you can just find the information that she died in the last edition of ZGF Gorilla.

At Planckendael a male Bonobo will get a vasectomy because he's over represented and this would allow the group to be merged again.(As well as it could with the hole Zamba thing)
A new young female is set to arrive from La Vallée des Singes in 2 weeks. However because of under staffing the move has been postponed multiple times and will possibly be postponed more.
