The new Lion exhibit in Expedition Africa opens on November 16th and it's coming along nicely. I really like the look of the visitor boardwalk.

While it certainly won’t be the biggest, nor the flashiest of lion habitats. It will definitely be an improvement over the temporary living space in Wild Florida; and will finally round out the African boardwalk into a complete loop, which was desperately needed for the longest time.

@PossumRoach I believe the upper area in the photo is the preexisting zebra-rhino habitat. With the lower area being the new lion space. With this in mind, the answer is no.

I’ve speculated before that it might become the home for either more rescued black bears or even Florida Panthers!

However, as this is just speculation, we can only guess as to what will move in.

I was told today the cheetah would be going in there. Apparently the lions will move off exhibit Monday and will be backstage near their new home, so they won't be viewable until their exhibit is open on the 16th.

On November 13th, the zoo announced they acquired (10.0) Madagascar hissing cockroaches (species not specified) which are now ambassador animals.

A white lion cub was born, I thought they only had 3 male lions. His color was a surprise as both his parents are normal colored lions

Contrary to the discussion above, which has nothing to do with the following. Actual news relating to the move of (0.1) Pepper the Cheetah was officially announced by the zoo themselves; which, thankfully, isn’t fake news.

[Edit] I should also mention the announcement states that Pepper can now be seen by visitors in her new space.

Mortica, the zoos female Wrinkled Hornbill has been euthanized due to worsening age related issues. She was 31yrs old making her the oldest wrinkled Hornbill in the AZA, the median life span for a female wrinkles Hornbill is 10.6yrs so she had a long life. After her mate passed earlier this year, this will leave the zoo without anymore Wrinkled Hornbills
