On July 29th, the zoo announced they acquired a (1.0) sandhill crane named Cowboy from an unspecified wildlife rehabilitation center, which is now on display in Wild Florida.

16K views · 769 reactions | Your Cowboy-Carter duo is here! Carter, a female sandhill crane, has called our Zoo home for over a decade. Now, she's been joined by her new habitat-mate, Cowboy! This male sandhill crane came to our Zoo recently after being rehabilitated at a wildlife rescue organization. The two can be spotted in the deer habitat in our Wild Florida loop. Come by and see them for yourself! | Brevard Zoo

Got a formal announcement of the lemur move on socials- talked to a staff member about it when I was there on August 1st, kind of surprised it took this long for them to mention it anywhere if it wasn't really under wraps. Old lemur islands, it seems, will be used for a "new primate species to the zoo." Not to just parrot the Instagram comments but Colobus are probably a good fit.

So happy about this development! They are a nice and - admittedly also quite cute - mouse species from the region with a good conservation story worth telling and also that this small program is getting a new holder too! Hopefully, more Floridean and SE US zoos tag along in due course for this critically endangered beach mice species ....!!!

On August 16th, the zoo officially announced they moved 5 ring-tailed lemurs Bosco, Cypress, Deaglan, Noah, and Red Bay to the island on the right side of the entrance to Expedition Africa, while 4 ring-tailed lemurs will stay at Lemur Island until they are transferred to other collections. The zoo also announced that when all the lemurs were moved out, they will be acquiring a new African primate species in late 2025.

On September 23rd, the zoo announced they named the babirusas Max and Ruby, respectively.

9.2K views · 529 reactions | Look who it is! Our North Sulawesi babirusa piglets, lovingly nicknamed Max and Ruby by their animal care team, made their debut as they explored their Lands of Change habitat for the very first time. ❤️ Over the last month, the babies have been residing in a behind-the-scenes space with their mom, Piggy, as we monitored their growth. Soon enough, it was time for them to take on their habitat! Our attentive team has been slowly increasing their time in the habitat to ensure their transition is smooth and comfortable for the little ones. They will soon meet their other family members, including their dad, Meru, and their brothers, Billy, Pippin and Merry. Swing by our Lands of Change loop, and you may catch a glimpse of the piglets! | Brevard Zoo

On September 26th, the zoo announced they acquired (0.3) striped skunks from another unspecified AZA facility, which are now ambassador animals. The zoo also announced their male (1.0) striped skunk named Oscar passed away earlier in 2025 due to heart failure.

6.5K views · 322 reactions | Our skunk squad has grown! We recently welcomed three new striped skunks to our Zoo crew. The trio arrived from another organization accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums as part of an Ambassador striped skunk breeding program. These three 4-month-old sisters will be joining our other two resident skunks, Dexter and DeeDee, as part of our Ambassador Animal team. As Ambassadors, our skunks will help educate guests on the importance of their species in their native habitats through special educational programs. Currently, their animal care team has started training the girls on how to enter and exit their secure carriers and walk to a moving target. We are moving at the girls’ pace as they learn new skills, but so far everyone has been motivated and curious. Our Ambassador team is working on choosing the perfect names for our new arrivals as they get to know their personalities. We will be sure to share them with you soon! On October 4th, the zoo announced they renovated the Kangaroo Walkabout exhibit, which includes a new boardwalk and new landscaping. The zoo also announced they acquired a female (0.1) red kangaroo named Cindy Roo Whoo, which is now on exhibit, as well as teased more animals to be added to the exhibit in the future.

38K views · 1K reactions | We are jumping for joy! Our Kangaroo Walkabout is now open following a 2-month renovation that added some new elements to this space for the comfort of our red kangaroo mob and guests! You'll notice a new walkway, substrate, landscaping and fans throughout. Soon, we'll add shadecloths as well. Our red kangaroo mob is settling in well to their refreshed habitat! A few things to know: Our kangaroo feeding experience will be closed for a bit longer as we give our mob time to reacclimate to their space. We've welcomed a new red kangaroo, 2-year-old Cindy Roo Whoo, to this habitat! ⁉️We will be welcoming a few more new friends to this space soon! We would like to thank Karen and Matt Zifcak as well as Linda and Gary Doyle for supporting this important work and investing in the wellbeing of our beloved kangaroo mob. We also appreciate our hardworking Facilities team for their dedication to this space over the last few months! Thank you! | Brevard Zoo

On October 29th, the zoo announced they moved their male (1.0) red-footed tortoise Speedy from Paws On to Kangaroo Walkabout.

7.4K views · 451 reactions | Our Kangaroo Walkabout welcomed its newest member, Speedy the red-footed tortoise! Speedy is actually one of our Zoo's longest residents—he's been in our care since 1995. Over the past years, the tortoise lived in solitary in our Paws On loop. But after some time, our animal care team noticed how friendly Speedy was toward guests and keepers. So, we made the decision to give him a few new friends. ❤️ Speedy is now thriving in the Walkabout located in our Lands of Change loop, where he can interact with guests and his habitat-mates, including our kangaroo mob, emus, Galapagos tortoises, dingos and muntjacs. Stop by on your next visit and say hello! | Brevard Zoo

26K views · 1.1K reactions | They may look like bunnies, they may hop like bunnies, but they're actually Patagonian maras! We are so excited to welcome six of these large rodents to our Flooded Forest habitat, located in our Rainforest Revealed loop. The three male and three female maras join their habitat-mates including our howler monkeys, whistling ducks, roseate spoonbills, scarlet ibis, river turtles, boat-billed herons and macaws. Stay tuned for more updates on these little ones as they adjust to their new home. ❤️ Read more about the maras on our latest blog: https://ow.ly/QjVb50Xk0Oj | Brevard Zoo
