I just got a similar email, only this one asked for me to buy a membership in the first place, not renew one. I saw the Dinosaur Safari as well, and what else could it mean than another summer animatronic dinosaur exhibit?
Hey, if they put "Dora and Diego's 4D Adventure" in their theaters, what's to stop them from getting those animatronic dinosaurs?
 
Okay, so I searched "Bronx Zoo dinosaur safari" on Google, and all that came up were job openings seeking interns for the safari. However, this website had this little bit to say which gives some information about the "exhibit":

"We are seeking four (4) summer interns for the all new Dinosaur Safari experience at the Bronx Zoo! Hop aboard a paleontologist''s wagon and take a fun-filled journey back to a time when dinosaurs ruled the world. Where guests can uncover fossils, explore dinosaur artifacts, create dinosaur-themed crafts, and enjoy theater performances and special appearances. Learn about animals in the zoo''s living collection and gain insight into why animals look the way they do across time and the fascinating adaptations that help them thrive and survive.

The ideal Intern will be well-versed in the world of paleontology/anthropology and interested in education and communicating with the public. Interns will be trained by science-based educators using the latest, up-to-date research to use biofact replicas (bones, fossils, teeth, skin, etc) to interact with guests about different subject areas.

Interns will also engage with public, answering questions and providing content in the Dinosaur Safari ride embarkation area. The candidate will need to answer questions, talk about various species of dinosaurs, and educate guests in an entertaining way."

I find it a bit disappointing that this is what they decided to do. It may just be temporary - they may be working towards a bigger project - but I'm not all too happy with it. Is the Monkey House going to become one of those buildings where they'll always be changing it into a different themed exhibit for the season?
 
I just thought I would mention that the "new" videos being uploaded to YouTube showing otters killing a monkey at the Bronx Zoo are not a repeat of the incident that occurred several years ago. The video has simply resurfaced (for what reason, I do not know), but it has been edited to show a closer look of the attack.

I remember that video, it's a horrible scene. Strange that it's recently reappeared after several years.

I remember visiting the Central Park Zoo in the early 1980's. I remember the Gorilla accommodation/building was terrible- small barred cages inside and outdoors. I seem to remember 'Pattycake' was still there then, aged about nine, and already a young mature female living alongside her parents Kongo & Lulu. So that would have been shortly before she was sent to the Bronx Zoo for the 2nd time.
 
The WCS's Run for the Wild- benefit for elephant conservation- is tomorrow and I'll be staying afterwards for a short visit (I just found earlier this evening that I can't stay that long:(). Anything anyone wants me to photograph/find out?

First off I did end up visiting for a lot longer than originally planned. Well the run was a big success with lots of people who came to support the WCS's mission to save elephants!:) Since a few people asked me this via PM I'd like to mention that the Himalayan Tahr are still on-exhibit and the Markhor was not and was never mentioned by the monorail guy. Also, there were some young North Sulawesi Babirusas on exhibit that appear to have been born earlier this year. Also, and sorry if this was already known, the Hog Deer were not on-show. There was a male Lowland Nyala in the Slender-Horned Gazelle enclosure- the gazelles were not on-exhibit. There are now 2.0 Von der Decken's Hornbills in with the Dwarf Mongoose in the Carter Giraffe Building. There's now a sign for the Maxwell's Duiker in the Aardvar/Northern White-Faced Scops Owl exhibit though I didn't see the duiker. I didn't see the duiker in their exhibit in CGF either and a keeper said she hadn't seen them on-exhibit before (though she didn't even know what a duiker was). In the colobus exhibit there's a sign for Angolan Colobus as well as the Eastern Black-and-White Colobus though I only saw the later. The Okapi wasn't out today. There was a Mandrill baby and the DeBrazza's Monkeys weren't out. The Aquatic Bird House is open again and to respond to a PM request, yes, the Puple Swamphen and Storm's Storks are still there. There are now Oriental Pied Hornbills on-exhibit in World of Birds. There was netting covering the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock enclosure. There were baby Red-Headed Amazon River Turtles and spiny-tailed iguana in World of Reptiles. The caimen lizards weren't on-show. There's a pair of Patagonian Maras in the Children's Zoo, some pheasants in the Monk Parrot exhibit, and there were two Black-Tailed Prairie Dog pups. There was also a White-Eared Pheasant in the Lesser Adjutant Stork exhibit.

I forgot to also mention that, and I don't know if it was there previously, there's a Great Blue Heron in the Roseate Spoonbill enclosure in the Aquatic Bird House.

You mean the new Komodo Dragon and Aldabra Giant Tortoise exhibits? I took pictures and plan to upload them soon. It's just construction still though I remember a tree or two being planted in one exhibit.

Oh no..... I had been to World of Birds but missed the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock ! I even didn't find their enclosure and sign! Meanwhile, does someone know where the monkeys in Monkey House go? I have seen titi and two lion tamarin species in World of Birds, but what about others? I mean king tamarin, saki, capuchin, etc.
 
By the way, do the cloud rat still on-exhibit? I had seen a rather small rat in the enclosure with a sign "Luzon cloud rat", and I know the small mouse mustn't be the Luzon cloud rat......

Squirrel Monkeys were relocated to the Children's Zoo.
Golden-Headed Lion Tamarins were put in the Mouse House.
Some other monkeys were relocated to Central Park and Prospect Park Zoo.

They're in the Ocellated Turkey/Malayan Great Argus enclosure on the second floor. There was a net covering it. The monkeys have been spread around the zoo. Some have left the collection though some have been sent to World of Birds and the Children's Zoo (Common Squirrel Monkey). Many of the remaining monkeys are in outdoor enclosures on the side of the Mouse House though I've yet to visit on a day when they were out since the Monkey House closed so couldn't tell you what's in there. What are the two tamarin species in World of Birds, anyway? Golden Lion and what? And what's a "King Tamarin"? The White-Throated Capuchins are actually in a very hard to notcie enclosure behind the Monkey House facing the Pere David's Deer. I found it completely by accident and only because I was participating in a run at the zoo where you ran past the enclosure.

To answer your other question, the cloud rats should still be on exhibit in the Mouse House. Did you take a pic of the small rat in the exhibit?

The cloud rats were there about 2 months ago but I have noticed small mice in several of the enclosures in the mouse house I guess they are not part of the exhibit as they look like common house mice or something like that.
