Well that's odd:p Yes, it's the Prospect Park Zoo, who has 1.1 of the Styani ssp.

I'd appreciate that. It's not just the pheasants, but the bird collection held in those pens.

The birds held in those enclosures vary constantly. I'll try and take note of what's in there as of tomorrow when I visit. I may be on a tight time frame, though, so I may not be able to make a run over to those enclosures.

Well, plans changed for the better and I ended up being at the zoo at 11:45 instead of 1:30 so I had time to get everything done and noticed a few changes. For one, work was being done on the roof of and inside of few enclosures of World of Birds. Also in there, Capuchinbirds and Plate-Billed Mountain Toucans (from Dallas World Aquarium) have been added to the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock and Ocellated Turkey enclosure. The Blue-Billed Curassows have also been moved into this enclosure, and the Malayan Great Argus removed. Also, the Emus are back out in their yard despite the signage being for White-Naped Cranes (which you can see in a separate enclosure behind the Emu one). The two tapir are back together and there was only one tree-kangaroo to be found in JungleWorld. The otters are back now also. A Black Crake is now in Congo Gorilla Forest. In the Mouse House, the Harris's Antelope Squirrel and the Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rats (listed as Southern Luzon Giant Cloud Rats for some reason). Busht-Tailed Jirds, both Greater and Lesser Egyptian Jerboas, and something called a "Gerbil-Like Hamster" were also added to the building, though I only saw the first of those unfortunately. There were quite a few McCord's Box Turtles out in the nursery in World of Reptiles. Also in the nursery was a Radiated Tortoise, a Merten's Water Monitor, a Madagascar Giant Day Gecko (P. grandis), and a few Fire Skinks (Lepidothyris fernandi), which can also be found in CGF. A Yellow-Headed Day Gecko was on-exhibit also. The caiman/turtle enclosure is still being worked on but the caimans and the probably some of the turtles were in the turtle enclosure across the hall and there was quite a bit of construction materials to the left side of the building. I stopped by the Zoo Center but couldn't see much of how the exhibit was coming along because a wall has been added. This wall, though, contained both an enter and exit set of doors and an enclosure for Varanus tristis and Varanus acanthurus brachyurus, signage and all done. Doesn't seem like it'll be much longer. I finished my trip by heading down to the Aquatic Bird House where I was pleased to find that the new kiwi enclosure is now finished and open! While I did not find the kiwi, it was good to see that they're on-show now. I also found a Flying Steamer Duck in the sea bird aviary.

On a bit of a comical note, the zoo has changed the common name their http://www.zoochat.com/547/new-guinea-snake-lizard-319156/ to "Long-Headed Scaly-Foot" on the signage:p

Okay, so the contents of the Pheasant Aviaries were as followed (this is based off of the signage, the ones I actually saw will be in bold):

-Blue Whistling Thrush
-Cabot's Tragopan
-Mountain Peacock-Pheasant

-Mikado Pheasant
-Lord Derby's Parrot
-Swinhoe's Pheasant
-Red-Billed Blue Magpie (nominate ssp)
-Satyr Tragopan
-Lady Amherst's Pheasant
-Helmeted Curassow (nominate ssp)

Despite me not seeing them today, all the species I didn't see I have seen before in the exhibit apart from the cockatoo (never seen it), the peacock-pheasant (seen it at the zoo before but not there), and the Satyr Tragopan (never seen it at Bronx before).

And finally for Gulo gulo, yes, the Cane Toad was still in with the anaconda.

Kiwi?! Why hadn't anyone mentioned this yet? Was this an exhibit plan that was kept secret? I'm actually kind of disappointed now, knowing that not only could I not visit before the end of the year, but that I would've missed the panda cubs, leopard cubs, and now kiwi apparently! I'm also very interested in seeing those mountain-toucans - they're one species I've always liked.

If you can recall, was the fennec fox still in the Mouse House? That fox had given birth recently, hadn't it? Or am I imagining that news?

The news that Bronx was making a kiwi enclosure was mentioned some time ago, and there was even a discussion about a rumor that Bronx had chicks. I believe jusko also reported the building of the enclosure.

The antelope squirrel and cloud rats aren't new to me, it's just that this is the first time I've seen them since 2011, so I figured it'd be something worth sharing. It's also possibly worth mentioning (as I did before) that the signage for the cloud rats was for the Southern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat. Being as Bronx is generally very good with their signage, take that as you will. What is a Gerbil-Like Hamster anyhow? I can't find a scientific name anywhere. No, they weren't. I don't recall if the foxes had one or both of the enclosures on that wall, but the two are now occupied by the cloud rats and Bushy-Tailed Jirds. I have a feeling that the Fennec Fox my be only displayed in the Children's Zoo from now on, but I've no clue. I was hoping the same could be said regarding the small-clawed otters in JungleWorld when their enclosure closed down for a bit, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

They're off-show which is probably why you didn't see any. Like I said, there were some in the nursery which is why I saw them. There were two other tanks in there labelled "Golden Coin Turtle" and "Yellow-Headed Box Turtle" but I didn't see the turtles in there (though I've seen the box turtle in the nursery before).
