Great news ! This was the original intent of that exhibit when it first opened 40+ years ago.Got an confirmation from a zoo email what will go into the former Amur leopard habitat:
“We are working on acclimating a clouded leopard to this exhibit. It is a slow process, and we do not yet know when the cat will be viewable to guests.”
I am very happy that this exhibit can finally have an animal that fits it.
Clouded leopards are notoriously furtive so they will likely add a lot of foliage that they can behind behind so visitors should be patient and vigilant .
But it will be worth it.
A magnificent addition in any event that adds not just another species but a unique genus (Neofelis) to the collection . The first time a NYC zoo has exhibited the genus publicly since Staten Island house the genus over a decade ago are ago between the previous resident Ocelot and the current Fossa in their , former, intended,”Neo Tropical” cum, generic , “Tropical” wing
