Although a small step, here's a video clip how the zoo added enrichment to the gorilla exhibit.

Several years after the opening of Great Bear Wilderness the Brookfield Zoo is installing permanent fencing to cover the old bear grottos.

In a video on the zoos website about the baby gibbon it shows lots of hay or dead grass on the bottom of Tropic World so i do not know what will happen to the otters in the exhibit since the water areas are probally covered.

Random fact but the Brookfield zoo releases it golden lion tamrins in the forest area in the salt lake nature trail so if you go in the summer you might be able to see them.

Lots of fun. I remember several zoos used to have free roaming glt's (as training for reintroduction to the wild) but it seems like not done much anymore. I heard an interesting talk by one of the release project people back at AZAD 2005 in DC. Surprisingly, they found that tamarins that had gone through this type of training (free ranging on zoo grounds) did NOT have a higher success rate in the wild than those that lived in traditional enclosures. She said the on-site (Brazilian forest) pre-release training was much more important than any previous zoo training they had received.

Here are the caracal kittens born on march 5, 2011and some people wondered how they use their exhibit.

Random zoo news but Brookfield zoo welcomed Australian consul general Roger Price they talked about an upcoming international wombat symposium thet will be held at Brookfield zoo and he met some australian rooted animals like Cookie the 79 year old major Mitchell's cockatoo and Aussie the first polar bear born in Australia. Also The childrens zoo recieved two 10 year old alpacas froma farm that a docent who volnteered at the zoo for 20 years who passed away on december 1 owned.

Brookfield Zoo got a new Grevy's zebra from San Diego Wild Animal Park named Mypa she will be paired up with a twelve year old male named Nazim.

I was told today that the American Alligators are no longer at the zoo. Two Orinoco Crocodilies will be taking their exhibit in The Swamp.

Nice, they got a critically endngered species! I think only 4 zoos in the U.S. have them Zoo Miami, Gladys Porter Zoo, Dallas World Aquarium and Brookfield Zoo.

Is there other bald eagle still have dark feathers on its head? I couldn't tell if that one was a juvenile bald eagle.

Where are the orinoco crocs coming from and where are the gators going? I'm also curious if there's other new stuff?

They got two new one year old future breeding pair snowleopards, the sloth bears climbing platform has been demolished and now is deadfall and tree, a new temporary exhibit called Extreme Bugs has opened it features real bugs and huge anomatronic bugs and the zoo got a new male gorilla named JoJo from Lincoln Park zoo Ramar the old male is still at the zoo but in the exhibit that was always but labeled as wolfs guenon exhibit.
