Brookfield Zoo Brookfield Zoo News 2016

Maybe a nice plaque would work. A bronze one so that long after humans have gone extinct space aliens and mutants can know the life of this great bird.

The San Diego Zoo has a bronze statue of King Tut, the cockatoo that was once their mascot animal, at the front of the zoo where he used to sit.

I would agree that a statue would be appropriate for Cookie. Beyond status as the oldest living parrot or cockatoo, Cookie's survival from the zoo's opening in 1934 until this month ties the bird as an icon of the zoo.

Thanks. Could you try to find out the exact sexes (how many males and how many females) on the pangolins? I'd appreciate it.
I belive there are 8 4 males and 4 females 3 are pregnate and 1 has already givin birth. I really think pangolins might be saved thanks to this zoo. They have 9 so they can send a baby once old enough it can be sent to san diego where it could breed and that baby can be sent to Brookfield to breed again.

San Diego's pangolin is getting pretty old. According to them, that species lives 13 years in zoos. Baba (SDZ's pangolin) arrived in the US as an adult in 2007. They are mature at 2 years old so that puts him at at least 10 years old, possibly more. He also sustained immense internal damage because his shipment received no food or water on their transport to the US. I believe that the total amount that was smuggled was 13. On confiscation, only five were alive. Only 3 made it to SDZ. One died shortly after and the other two were so weak they had to be tube fed. Only after months could they eat on their own. In 2011 they both got sick and the female didn't make it. An autopsy showed that the female's insides were extraordinarily messed up (for lack of a better phrase) and we can only imagine what Baba's is like.

All that to say- he won't be around to breed for much longer, sadly. He was with a female for four years and no babies resulted. Perhaps both were too damaged for anything to come of it.

Thanks for the info. However I still belive that Brookfield will have a big impact on the population cthere not even on exhibit yet and a baby has been born and 3 are pregnate.

Here is a official anouncment from the Brookfield zoo
at this time the Chicago zoological society is at the beginning stages of developing a new master site plan for the future. along with tropic world and discussion of outdoor habitats there are many older buildings being considered for renovation.

that does not read very much like an official announcement. Where is the original source?

This was said a few months ago but no one noticed because it was not a public anouncment. go to the youtube channel search Kamba and Zachary gorillas playing with coconuts then read the comment section.

Just like every other website. Just copy a link and paste it into the message box or whatever it's called.

ok thanks. This is actually interesting news though. a new master plan is being made with something to do with tropic world. The last master plan for the zoo was way off though.

it didn't actually say anything though. It was a non-comment on a Youtube video, not any sort of announcement.

All they said was that they are "at the beginning stages of developing a new Master Site Plan for the future" which is like saying "I am thinking about typing something in this box" and "Along with Tropic World and discussions about outdoor habitats, there are many older buildings that will be considered for renovation" which just means "many areas will be considered for renovation".

Neither part of the comment is actually stating anything.
