Burgers' Zoo Burgers Zoo 2018

Some news that I heard:

- The manatee died off heart failure, and she wasn't pregnant at the time
- Longnose gar have been introduced in the Mangrove
- 120 Cichlids have been moved off the Mangrove to be placed elsewhere.
- In the saltwater basin of the Mangrove blue surgeonfish ( Acanthurus coeruleus) has been introduced together with the Foureye butterflyfish ( Chaetodon capistratu) to combat the algae growth.
- The panther cubs will be from now on, on public display
- The experiment with the two male roadrunners how received eggs from Blijdorp sadly failed.

Yes please! I am trying to collect all the different maps in a photoalbum for some research!

A scan of my oldest map of Burgers' Zoo is now in the gallery. It's probably from 1995, shortly after the "Desert" was opened. I had an other one from the nineties, probably dating from 1998 or 1999, but is was more or less the same, so in the end I didn't saved that one. I remember that for the nocturnal house a prosimian (it looked like a aye-aye, but should have been a galago) was pictured instead of a badger.

Ah if you do have that one still maybe send me a DM with it? I am very interested :D
Thank you so much!

Visited Burgers' a few days ago and I noticed that there is a third ringtail?
Two ringtails are located together for a while now in the enclosure behind the bighorn sheep. But I noticed another one in the enclosure near the cactus mice.
Does anyone know anything about that?

Also note: The waters in the bush (near the coca-cola shack) still contain lungfish as I did spot one very briefly!

They imported 2.2 ringtails from the US a few years back, bringing the total number of ringtails in Burgers' to 6, part of which will be kept behind the scenes....

Will they be separate exhibit or a new ecodisplay consisting of a few exhibits?

That wasn't mentioned, so we will wait until they announce it later this year.... I personally would think first some separate exhibits to make space for a new ecodisplay....

In week 35 the ring-tailed lemur and coati will go off show for the new development. I wonder what will happen with the seals, warthogs and meerkats during construction.

In the Mangrove also a new bird species has been added the Indigo bunting

Nice to see a new bird in the Mangrove!

I assume they will do the new development in phases? That way they have time to give the animals new enclosures

Yet indeed a bit afraid on the seals, as those are very iconic to me.

Don´t forget about the blue duikers, which are the last remaining species in the old pygmy hippo and tapir complex (before this, there were also the rhinos).

I heard rumours, that they are already searching for someone, who will take care for duikers and ringed seals.

I guess one of the smaller Dutch or closeby European zoos will take these.
