BX OceaLife / BXSea - New Oceanarium in Bintaro

It appears that BXSea has acquired a wobbegong shark. Only one so far, though why there is a juvenile tawny nurse shark in the Raja Ampat exhibit?

The aquarium's young false gharial is back on display.

Though used to house the gharial from the start during the few weeks of the aquarium's opening, it was put off-display after a month. Chain-link railing were added from the inside around the exhibit intended for the coconut crabs to climb but a couple species of mudskippers were added instead of those crabs.

The false gharial is now back in the exhibit, probably up until it outgrew the exhibit. The chain-link railing were also taken off, probably to create a more visible viewing.

I wonder what to exhibit here after the false gharials' inevitable phase out? Probably freshwater turtles? Or mudskippers again, this time the giant mudskipper please since it's more visible.

In a more practical situation, they would probably go for turtles. But if I remember correctly, they have quite a number of mudskippers atleast those on display. I wonder if they still have them.

Though, I do still interested to see this exhibit to turned out to be a mangrove beach exhibit with coconut crabs, mudskippers, and other coastal species in the future. Of course, re-decorating will be needed to make it better.

The false gharial exhibit in BXSea seems to had been planned to house the aquarium's native reptiles. A pair of northern snake-necked turtles and an hydrosaurus microlophus with an young false gharial in a very plain and boring exhibit that basically gave no cover for these reptiles.

BXSea has its fair share of interesting saltwater fishes, most notably their lone Indonesian wobbegong. I managed to photographed the individual, really hoped that they could took care of it for a long time and even have the chance to acquire another wobbegong.

I'm very sure when the false gharial gets phased out, the hydrosaurus and the turtles will be the exhibit's permanent resident. It was intended for coconut crabs, but due to unknown reasons it got changed into a reptile exhibit.

As for the wobbegong, I think it was supposed to be in the tunnel exhibit but instead exhibited in the Raja Ampat shark pool.

I'm glad if that is the case, I always liked a mixed reptile/amphibian exhibit and never really a fan of the addition of the gharial in the aquarium. Though I really wish they would put more effort in giving more foliage and redesign into a proper semi-aquatic reptile exhibit if they have no plan to change it into anything else.

I guess putting the wobbegong in the main tank would make it pretty much impossible for guest to view this rarely seen species. There's also chances it might outcompeted by other sharks and rays. I prefer the current wobbegong tank to be converted into a small and medium bottom-dwelling shark tank with the wobbegong and bamboo sharks.

And from photos I saw on IG and GMaps there's also a tawny nurse shark in that pool. I'd like to see the blacktip reef sharks and the lone tawny nurse shark moved to the tunnel tank. Hoping someday BXSea could acquire epaulette sharks from Raja Ampat or Halmahera in the future.

I liked the idea of turning the wobbegong tank into a small shark tank, though I genueinely doubt that BXSea currently have enough experience in keeping the more interesting species of sharks. Remember that they kind of rushed their effort to add that pair of scalloped hammerheads which also include heavy promotional campaign (Even so far to creating a pair of mascots inspired by them), which ultimately failed after the hammerheads death only a few weeks into their acclimation.

These I feel like kind of resulted in them halting their plan to acquire newer shark species like the sandtiger shark and the more ambitious plan for the sawfish that was mentioned here before. I'm not aware if they're are differences in the care of ground/carpet sharks and mackerel sharks, but I still believe that they're try to play safe currently after their hammerheads failure and try to gradually gain experience over time.

Carpet sharks tend to fare better in captivity, such as bamboo sharks and wobbegongs, while ground sharks like blacktip and whitetip reef sharks require larger spaces.

BXSea has quitely changed its logo and mascot from a hammerhead shark into what appears to be a zebra shark, one of the aquarium's current inhabitant.

Though probably doesn't mean much, this somewhat imply that BXSea either canned or fully abandoned their plan to add hammerhead shark in the future after a failed attempt to add a pair to the main tank due to the pair's death.

I just hope they substituted hammerheads for bonnetheads, though it's going to be pretty hard since they came from North America. Hopefully they'll find a workaround.

I wish BX Sea still had plans to acquire sand tiger sharks. Also, I hope Sea Life brought BX Sea and changed it's name into Sea Life Indonesia.

Last time I went to BXSea the staff said sand tigers will come later this year along with penguins, but still feeling unsure

Well, I hope the sand tiger sharks and the african penguins arrive in december 2024. I also hope BX Sea to replace the spider crabs with brown king crab (lithodes aequispinus) since the spider crabs would grow larger and no longer fits the tank.

That works, and add more deepwater fishes in the same exhibit too like popeye catalufa, Hilgendorf's saucord and flashlightfish

A YouTube video have confirmed that the former giant Pacific octopus tank is now housing several king crabs. With the octopus, as reported by @Fargusno, was put on quarantine due to stress involving the use of camera flash by guests.

This confirms that the octopus at SeaWorld Ancol and BXSea are two completely different individuals, which I believed was the fact.

A post on Google Maps revealed that the tiger salamander in BXSea has been phased out and replaced by a Chinese giant salamander, which is a better choice considering its rarity in Indonesian zoos and aquarias, and the tiger salamander is more adapted to terrestrial environments.

Not shown here, the false gharial exhibit is now a mixed reptile exhibit featuring a hodgepodge of juvenile false gharials, some Amboina sailfin dragons and Siebenrocki snake-necked turtles. One day all three of them will outsize their exhibit.

Woah, it's probably not fully grown but still impressive! Though if the tank was first made for a tiger salamander, it will outgrow the tank eventually. This is like the second or third Chinese giant salamander in Indonesia right?
