BX OceaLife / BXSea - New Oceanarium in Bintaro

Too bad, they should've housed these mammals to the outdoor area along with BXBirds and chitals. Sad to see BXSea following JAQ's path for acquiring land mammals.

BXSea could've acquired large sharks that are easier to obtain like grey reefs or bull sharks but no, BXSea would rather acquire land animals instead :(

Bali Safari got bull sharks in their collection, and I feel BXSea could've done the same

It's worth mentioning again that the shark at Bali's Marine Safari are grey reef shark, as confirmed by the park (TSI's marine department are often always accurate) and physical comparison.

It's simply to attract general guests. Indonesian aquarias, in which BXSea is in my opinion the worse offender, have less focus on what species they bringing in, but more so how to make their Aquarium more marketable and captivating for general guests. Which is why you'll often see things that doesn't look right for most aquariums, like a game corner. It came down to the guests as well, who cares how "cool" the sharks are when taking dark pictures of you with a large fish tank in the background are generally a lot interesting for a majority of people. It's obvious that BXSea attempts to jump on the success of a lot of other aquarias with the addition of these mammals, which also still attract guests at the detriment of the animals.

Sadly yes, they prefer cute/cuddly creatures over cool and monstrous fishes. If BXSea was opened back in the 2000s or 2010s, they would've not added binturongs, lemurs nor squirrels to their collection and chose to add large sharks and probably get a permit for them to import a sawfish from Australia to attract more guests.

Yeah, I'm wishing BXSea to acquire sand tiger or silky sharks for their tunnel, but we've got this instead. I hope this "voices of the forest" zone didn't last long in BXSea.

I agree, they could got rare species such as the epaulette sharks, cuttlefishes, etc.

I agree. They had plans for sawfish too which never came to fruition because it's pretty much unobtainium unless they're rich enough to get a permit to get one from Australia or from an aquarium outside of Indonesia that's willing to give them their sawfish

A video of a full walktrough in BXSea, it shows some updates such as:
  • A group of silver moonyfishes had been added to the ray pool, replacing diamond trevallies and african pompanos.
  • The green tree phytons had been phased-out/off-displayed, a single wagler's pit viper now occupying their exhibit.
  • The chinese giant salamander exhibit is now closed, it's either the salamander had been phased-out or the exhibit is under repair.
  • A single clown featherback is now added to the predator's realm tank and now housed together with florida gars, payaras, etc.
  • Some datnoides had been added to the predator's realm tank.
  • Some of the payaras had been moved from the predator's realm tank to the king of river tank.

  • Hopefully the pompanos and trevallies are moved to Raja Ampat or the main tank, likely the former
  • Welp, there goes the only CGS displayed in Indonesian aquaria, though it lasted pretty long since late 2024 and I managed to snap some pics of it in memoriam, hopefully it'll return there or it'll get a new and larger exhibit with smaller amphibians taking its old exhibit
  • Both JAQS and BXSea moved their payaras to a larger place, what a coincidence. Still hoping for BXSea to acquire goliath tigerfish again, since the last one (which may not be GATF but probably VATF) perished
  • I also noticed that the Russian sturgeons has grown bigger, hopefully they'll be moved to the King of Rivers exhibit in the future. The paddlefish barely grow an inch and still small

I guess BXSea still not doing anything about this spot a.k.a the intended exhibit for the African penguins.. :(
What will they do with this spot? Leave it like this? I feel this could've been better for the lemurs though, with the place that was intended for the penguins' to swim in as a moat filled with Madagascan fishes like Paretroplus menarambo and Madagascar rainbowfish

That single goliath tigerfish from JAQ could be sent to BXSea for their king of river tank. I'm also hoping julien's golden carps & giant gouramis to be added to the tank.

There's a new BXSea vlog from youtube that shows the chinese giant salamanders had returned to it's exhibit. But, the pacman frog and stick insect exhibit is closed, probably under some repair. I'd like also to report that the green insularis had been phased-out from it's exhibit, leaving the blue variant alone.

Thankfully BXSea isn't the type of aquaria that quickly phases out their animals

On my visit on Saturday (12 July, 2025). Several new fishes has been added, largely smaller fishes like thalassoma hardwicke and cirrhilabrus sp.

Additionaly, BXSea appears to had added several brand new species of rays including an aetobatus flagellum and an unknown species of dasyatidae.

Good guess! Though this ray have it's spots largely centered around their rear. I didn't notice their tail having that notable stripes.

I think BXSea is the only aquaria in Indonesia that has kept Maculabatis gerrardi, while SWA used to keep Aetobatus flagellum back in the 2010s

Interesting, I thought I heard that Jakarta Aquarium have had maculabatis gerrardi as well before from someone.

There are two possibilites:
  1. The African penguins they ordered from South Africa has finally "escaped" their legal limbo and they're good to go to BXSea
  2. They decided that they'll acquire Humboldt penguins instead
If this is #1, then that means there's a possibility that the sand tiger shark may come with them, because AFAIK BXSea ordered penguins and sand tiger sharks from South Africa back in 2023/2024.

Or 3.) BXSea take their time to learn about the husbandry of penguins, regardless if they're the African or the Humboldt species, two years into their run, because penguins need more advanced maintenance systems and care that BXSea realisticly can't do so magically on the get-go in their opening.

Where did these informations came/sourced from?

Ahh.. I think it was based on me asking the zookeepers around last year or so, or from one of Audrey's videos during the early days of BXSea (2023-2024) AFAIK
