BX OceaLife / BXSea - New Oceanarium in Bintaro

BXSea has confirmed that the upcoming animals are indeed, penguins
Hopefully they're African penguins as they planned before since 2023, not a last-minute change to Humboldt penguins (there are already Ocean Dream Samudera, JAQS, TSI Cisarua, Eco Green Park and Bali Marine that kept them)

And if true, they should come with the sand tiger sharks (if memory serves me right, correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm kinda worried because the post used Humboldt penguins, as evident from the pink notch on their beaks

What do you have against Humboldt penguins :p? Humboldt or African, penguins are already quite a status symbol for a aquarias in some ways hahaha.

I assume its perhaps a ordinary visual design choice by the PR team. Animals curator/researchers and social media teams are two different divisions in zoo management, so sometimes mixing up like this appears to be more common than you'd think.

It seems they learn to slow down with their acquisitions after some mishaps in the past (I.e scalloped hammerhead). I guess, and hope, the penguins are the only things coming in right now. The attention of the caretakers and curator has to be now on the penguins to ensure their well-beings.

I have nothing against Humboldt penguins actually, but hoping that BXSea actually keep African penguins this time

BXSea recently phased-out their aligator snapping turtle and a pair of forstein's tortoise is now occupying their exhibit. Meanwhile, an uromastyx is now occupying the former forstein's tortoise exhibit.

  • The SpongeBob decors in the razorfish exhibit are gone (wahoo)
  • The Shark Path exhibit in Raja Ampat now houses only two blacktip reef sharks. Kinda unsure on what happened to the Indonesian wobbegong that was there
  • The penguin exhibit's light has been turned on, presumably to make way for their arrival this month

Kinda expected because acquiring African penguins itself is a hassle and that what held them away from keeping penguins for almost 2 years. This makes Gembira Loka Zoo as the sole keeper of African penguins in Indonesia.

Berarti Sand tiger shark kemungkinan kandas.. entah gimana BXSea mau bisa acquire noh hiu kerabat great white itu. Impor dari China kah? Atau dari Jepang?

Apparently the Humboldt Penguins were (probably) surplus animals from Ocean Dream Samudera, since they have a huge colony that kept breeding since 2018/2019. There are five animals in total.

Whats News - BXSea

Compared to the current Humboldt Penguin exhibit, the originally intended African Penguin exhibit looked much more natural, especially with the rock-like structures.

On the other hand, the current exhibit design is less natural and there's too much blue paint on the floor.
