What is 'disconnected infrastructure'?

most tourists don't visit zoos when at home, so the likelihood is that few Japanese would even know they have koalas in Japan. It's just something that needs to be ticked off the list when in Australia. It's the same in NZ where everybody "has" to see a kiwi, even if they have literally no interest in animals otherwise. It isn't the animal they're interested in seeing, it is the icon that it represents (koala=Australia, kiwi=NZ).Many people visiting from Japan for example, are there for a very short time and list seeing a koala as a major reason for visiting Australia, despite there being plenty in Japanese zoos!
