Another update on the elephants who have started interacting with their new herd mates.

A gentoo penguin chick hatched June 27th to parents Arabel and Weddell.

I was there the day the egg was laid. Glad to hear it hatched

A second gentoo chick hatched July 4th to parents Giselle and Lachlan, the parents of last years chick Una. Check it out on facebook.

The gentoo penguin chicks are on display with the rest of the penguins now. The vets still need to get their hands on the chicks for DNA tests to determine gender.

The 5 young komodos have arrived and will be clearing quarantine and on exhibit late August or early September.

Two orphaned black bear cubs from Whitehorse will be living at the zoo. Their mother had to be shot by wildlife officials when she became a repeat nuisance bear. The cubs will eventually join the zoos other black bear.

Some more of the sage grouse chicks have died but details arent being supplied by the zoo.

The four 8 month old komodos are now on display. Its two males and two females.

The penguin chicks have finally been named. The male is Adler and the female is Georgia.

Crowned Cranes, Duke and Duchess, have produced the first chicks in 30 years at the zoo. The chicks will be getting royal names once they know their genders.

Sad news from the zoo. Kita the zoo's oldest female Amur tiger has passed at 19. She died of age related problems. In an odd twist of fate her litter mate Baikal was killed by her grandson Vasili in Winnipeg last week. What are the odds?

Animatronic dinos are returning to the prehistoric park in March 2015 and will stay through November. They may also spend the 2016 season in Calgary.

The zoo's bathroom was voted second best in Canada. Yep, another slow news day. Just in case anyone wants to use the best bathroom in Canada the winner was Shaw Club Hotel and Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.

The zoo has received one or two new red pandas from Granby.
