I would assume they didn't for the baiji because they were freshwater, so weren't really affected by whaling. Vaquita could be as by-catch or something. Seems a little late for that, though.

Sea sheperd annouces vaquita numbers stable and an important increase in net removal in the protected zone.

Well, that *could* be positive news.... but equally, "they are all dead now" is a stable number too.
Where did it say that numbers were stable?
The article has a line "numbers have plummeted to fewer than 20 individuals", and in the video they said "more or less ten remaining" and a bit later "based on the last survey when the Vaquita population held for the first time with about ten remaining".
I wouldn't say that equates to "numbers stable", especially when they are saying "about ten" and "more or less ten" - those phrases suggest the remaining number is actually unknown.
