On April 18, 2020, the zoo announced on Facebook that their pair of rusty spotted cats had given birth earlier in the week to one kitten. These are the only rusty spotted cats in the United States (and probably in the entire western hemisphere).
Where did they get the breeding pair from?On April 18, 2020, the zoo announced on Facebook that their pair of rusty spotted cats had given birth earlier in the week to one kitten. These are the only rusty spotted cats in the United States (and probably in the entire western hemisphere).
Their website, when you click on clouded leopard, says "meet Doodle, Dexter, and Song." However the only two photos that scroll through are Doodle (quite young) and Dexter (an adult). I know nothing more.Do somebody know anything about their clouded leopards?
I have no idea. I was really shocked to see there are rusty spotted cats in USA. I can only assume they imported them from some European zoo (which you probably already assumed; sorry I don't have more information).Where did they get the breeding pair from?
Thanks, I also saw that and I was trying to see from where they came and all their respective information. I should contact them.Their website, when you click on clouded leopard, says "meet Doodle, Dexter, and Song." I just checked the CITES database. Two were imported to the USA in 2018, and seems like both were born in the UK. One was exported from the Czech Republic and one from Slovakia.I have no idea. both born in the same facility?I just checked the CITES database. Two were imported to the USA in 2018, and seems like both were born in the UK. One was exported from the Czech Republic and one from Slovakia.
Czech Republic and Slovakia are 2 very different republics. Formerly, communist Czechoslovakia and separated after the 2nd Velvet Revolution. So, no 2 different zoos.both born in the same facility?
They were exported to the USA from two countries, but both originated as captive-bred from the UK.Czech Republic and Slovakia are 2 very different republics. Formerly, communist Czechoslovakia and separated after the 2nd Velvet Revolution. So, no 2 different zoos.

I just checked it again and I either misread a column or it has been changed since my previous post in April (and there is now an additional listing for 2019).I went through annual reports of Czech and Slovak zoos keeping them in year 2018. None were transfered out in that year. So the US cats must be sourced privately? I have never heard about any kept outside zoos here, so this is a little confusing.
