On April 18, 2020, the zoo announced on Facebook that their pair of rusty spotted cats had given birth earlier in the week to one kitten. These are the only rusty spotted cats in the United States (and probably in the entire western hemisphere).

Where did they get the breeding pair from?

Do somebody know anything about their clouded leopards?
Their website, when you click on clouded leopard, says "meet Doodle, Dexter, and Song." However the only two photos that scroll through are Doodle (quite young) and Dexter (an adult). I know nothing more.

I have no idea. I was really shocked to see there are rusty spotted cats in USA. I can only assume they imported them from some European zoo (which you probably already assumed; sorry I don't have more information).

Thanks, I also saw that and I was trying to see from where they came and all their respective information. I should contact them.

I assume they are good at getting back to you, because when I asked about the rusty spotted kitten in the Facebook post, they posted a reply within two minutes! I did ask someone I know at a major cat facility if they knew where Carson got their rusty spotted, but my friend was not sure and also assumed a (as yet unknown) European zoo.

I just checked the CITES database. Two were imported to the USA in 2018, and seems like both were born in the UK. One was exported from the Czech Republic and one from Slovakia.

I went through annual reports of Czech and Slovak zoos keeping them in year 2018. None were transfered out in that year. So the US cats must be sourced privately? I have never heard about any kept outside zoos here, so this is a little confusing.

I wonder whether it is one of the private breeders like Rare Species in Sandwich? Or Port Lympne of all places!

Czech Republic: Liberec and Ostrava. Slovakia is Bojnice, I should think.

I just checked it again and I either misread a column or it has been changed since my previous post in April (and there is now an additional listing for 2019).

In 2018 there was one captive-bred, originating in Great Britain, exported to the USA from Slovakia; and another, also originating from Great Britain, and exported from the Czech Republic - but now with the source listed as "confiscation/seizure" rather than "captive-bred".

There is also now a 2019 listing there, for an animal originating in Great Britain as captive-bred, exported to the USA from the Czech Republic.

I think the 2018 and 2019 Czech records are the same animal though (I quite often come across duplicate export/import data between two years, which I think might be to do with lapses between applications and the actual transfers or something like that - in this case the 2018 record is from the importer [USA] and the 2019 record from the exporter [Czech Republic]).

*I may have missed some births from animals such as clouded leopard, black-and-white-ruffed lemur, and Indian peafowl (a lot of peafowl), among others.

Last time I was at Carson (few months back) they claimed he was the oldest male GoH in the world, I knew he was old but the oldest?
