The Cat Survival Trust Cat Survival Trust

Which exactly has precipitated their own downfall. Those that cannot learn from zoo history and evolution of animal husbandry/vet health management and exhibit design ... are condemned to repeat their own mistakes'. Their somewhat anti-zoo stance has been an equal hindrance to progress and making relevant and helpful connections with the zoo community instead.

For now, it is wait and see what the judicial road will look like, the court proceedings, the evidence and weighing what infringements or misdemeanours or offences have occured and let the judge be the just verdict over the operation and its owners and/or supporters.

Animal Collection:
Does anyone know what the current stats are for the Cat Survival Trust in terms of what carnivores they still hold or held till recently?
According to the Devi post on the 26th April there were 7 cats including 4 Pumas

I understand that many of the smaller to medium sized cats were re-homed within another private facility in the UK. Since then, two bobcats have since been transferred from the intermediary private collection to Johnson's of Old Hurst.

Good to see another holder of bobcats in the UK.

The cross examination finished Wednesday last week.
From what I believe followed 2 days legal arguments. Jury off Monday and reconvened yesterday. The went out for deliberation and returned their verdict quickly.
Of the 28 counts, 23 made it to court.
6 were discharged by the judge. One cat had been duplicated, others due 2 laws being used and duplicating counts. So of the 17 remaining, 12 guilty and 5 not guilty.
I haven't got the indictment list but I would suggest the counts for using the cats for commercial gain was a bit shoddy and they may not have had enough to reach a guilty verdict.

Therefore, I'm guessing most of the other counts were regarding the neglect.

It was awful listening to what they went through. One cats internal nasal structure has broken down from years of not being treated.

He put on a show and it was quite uncomfortable at times when when tied to hold court. The judge has to keep shutting him down. There were various strange outbursts and many lies on the stand

He is due to be sentenced next week, I presume that's when more news will be reported.

In view of the cats, some have been removed since the police became involved, looks like he moved cats so they couldn't be part of this.

The police advise if he was found guilty the cats would be removed completely. Though I am not sure what is happening due to not having the indictment list to hand. Some of you seem to be local to the farm, so you may find that out for yourselves.

He has never really filed accounts for the charity and narrowly avoided action in the past. However he has continued in the same vein even since being warned. They are now investigating properly.

Am I the only one who finds it strange, that day one of this trial was reported on, but there has been absolutely nothing since, anywhere in the media at all?
They wait until the end to provide further news. Probably after sentencing next week

Even the two days he attended which were showing last week, are no longer showing. The case has been removed from the public view, the trail was scheduled for 2 weeks, so the final day of the hearing should have been today.
It ended being up over 3 weeks.

Does anyone know where the animals were rehoused, that's assuming they have all been removed
CST have rehomed a few. Police advise if found guilty, they have homes for all of them. Not sure if that's happening or if after he gets sentenced. Or if at all as I am unsure of the indictment list, he has been found guilty of 12 counts

I have also noticed that all reference to the case, have been removed from the law pages, with the case being removed from the daily hearings, even the two days which the media covered on the 22nd and 23rd. This would suggest to me, that a gagging order has been put in place, meaning it can't be reported on, therefore I would only expect there to be anything further if a guilty verdict is recorded, as otherwise any order would not be able to be removed.
The police didn't mention that there was a gagging order in place.
Normally you get news at the start and end. So keep watching, sentencing sue next week

Good to have the facts on that (given people had reported they were all removed before). Hopefully they will have good homes now. Such sad cases of cruelty. Needless and unfair to the animals.

It’s good this is an outlier and it gets prosecuted as so much good work is done in zoos and collections it’s good to see bad actors being stopped.

So the sentence is in…

A 5 year ban on keeping animals (once arrangements have been made for the remaining 31 animals in the trust) and an order to pay fines totalling up to £10,000.

What an outcome from 'not liking modern medicine' - ludicrous thinking. The animals lost out. The court did recognise he wasn't trying to be cruel hence the ban length I guess, but the road to hell is paved etc.

Given his age I suppose a 5 year ban will be effective long term.

Surprised to see 31 animals still in place but I guess some will be the domestic cats referred to in the article.

Cat Survival Trust owner faces animal ban after conviction

As what is in his pockets seemed to be more important than the welfare of his animals, a larger fine I think would have been more appropriate

Herts Police have now released a number of images from their on site-inspection and investigations of the site. This includes the cats themselves, log books, food preparation areas and offices.

Shocking is putting it diplomatically.

where to find?

Am I wrong in thinking that these animals were neither covered by either a zoo licence or dangerous animals licence. If not why not ?because, if they had the conditions for these poor animals would have not have become this terrible. The local authorities are partly to blame because they must have known what animals were housed there and yet there seems that there were no inspections, or were there? The quicker these animals are rehoused the better.
