The Cat Survival Trust Cat Survival Trust

We thought about going joining as members when we first moved back to the area but the photos put me off.

Whilst I’m not a Hertfordshire Zoo fan I do think the partner sanctuary is well run in general & I understand the need to raise the most funds possible hence the lion rescue.
I recall wanting to go there at some point mainly because they had a jaguar in reasonable driving distance. I did see pictures of the place, and my general thought was 'it isn't pretty, but I'm sure it's all in good doing!'
Having photographed jaguar [in less reasonable driving distance] I have no particular inclination now.

I’ve always been told when I’ve spoken to keepers else where that big cat’s instinctively prey on the weaker so the attack at this stage, particularly as welfare is likely to have been further declining makes sense. I’m just thankful the cat wasn’t destroyed as a result.

I would think the snow leopard’s are so closely bonded to him that it made an attack from them less likely.

I would be keen to know which zoos have loaned his animals for breeding.I wonder if Paradise/Hertfordshire have ever?

The newspaper article says that Moore claims that he has a doctorate, hmm, strange ,has he,or, hasn't he ?
Hahaha, a Doctorate? Absolutely not. He has no formal qualifications in any area including animals. As everyone has said, accident waiting to happen. The positive thing was the cat wasn't harmed. I'm not sure what the local authority were doing allowing these cats to remain on site when he is banned from keeping animals. He obviously had free contact with them. Maybe, finally, the Local Council will now be held accountable for years of failings. This could just have easily have been a fatality on their conscience.

Regards the Court, he was told not to deal with any of the animals on site, but again he ignores the Courts, nothing changes

This was all reported over 20 years ago to every authority but we were told they couldn't do anything, so he continued to be a huge problem. As I said to him then, Karma, what goes around comes around. He laughed in my face, so who's laughing now, the damage he has done not only to these poor animals, there's a lot more I could tell, but to his so called family, including my poor Dad.

Never been to this place but I take it he liked the idea of showing off to the world that he could get close to big cats to feed his ego rather than anything to do with conservation.

Interesting failure considering the legislation around charities and the requirement to provide accurate accounts. You’d think knowing this was going to kick off would make them put it right first.

After that length of time you have to wonder what on earth is going on. First formal enforcement notices were also filed in 2019!

They last filed in 2011…given the very small numbers involved at the time (comparatively) you’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to keep track of it.

THE CAT SURVIVAL TRUST - Charity 272187

It’s not much comfort that if any of us messed around with our tax returns like this on a personal basis (if you self submit) well it wouldn’t take 11 years for someone to action it. I had more than 20 email reminders and help advice about the return this year alone and I submit on time every year.

Regulator to investigate wild cat conservation charity over failure to file accounts
Still the same situation with the accounts, they were going to start an enquiry around 20 years ago. I had to investigate him and this took me to the charities commission personally. However, due to personal legal action again him, he had produce accounts as evidence. So he became obligated to submit them to th charities commission. Which in turn allayed the previous enquiry at the last minute. Had it not been for this action, they'd have never been submitted and he would have been investigated then. He obviously continued in the same vein and here we find ourselves here today. I've since been in contact them to see if I can assist them this time but not heard back from them. I do hope they are taking his previousl history into consideration.
I just hope now that all the animals are safely rehomed.

The Cats have been gradually leaving over the past few weeks

2 Serval have gone to Wingham

1 Bobcat, 2 Lynx and 2 Puma have moved to a private collection in the UK. 6 more Puma will follow (to the same collection) later this month

The Asian Golden Cat has retired to another UK collection (he is not on display)

Nothing has been confirmed about the other cats yet.

Fingers crossed, this farce will be over soon !

Did this place have any Jungle Cats? The Ark has just taken on two more which they described as 'urgent rescues' - possibly pure coincidence but this dump was the first place that sprang to mind when I saw the news?

Yes he did
They did have Jungle Cats. So seems a very likely source of them
Yes I believe he had Jungle Cats. Good to see the progress rehoming these poor creatures.

Its worrying though that, in their Facebook post about the new arrivals, the Ark stated that they were days away from being put down. I sincerely hope that none of the poor animals at that place meet such a fate!

Received this in a newsletter from Hertfordshire Zoo today:

The Big Cat Sanctuary, to rescue and rehome 28 rare and endangered cats from The Cat Survival Trust, Welwyn.

Working collaboratively with police, local authorities, and veterinary teams, our dedicated staff have taken on the crucial tasks of vaccinating, feeding, cleaning, and providing care for these vulnerable animals while suitable new homes are found.

To date, 14 of the 28 cats have been successfully rehomed, including Frank, the UK’s only Asian Golden Cat, who has found a forever home at The Big Cat Sanctuary.

Also on the BBC after the Hertfordshire zoo released a statement - they note some of the cats won’t be able to be rehomed due to significant health issues.
