I just went to the Central Florida Zoo this Thrusday. It is a small enjoyable zoo, but there is no world class exhibit or stands out. They do have an attractive insect house with some interesting creepy crawlings. Most of the exhibits are decent size exhibits in aviary enclosures. The exhibit that I like the most was the cheetah which was on a boardwalk with a glass viewing, plenty of shade, 2 big hills with tunnels through the hill. The zoo is much more interactive with the kids with plenty of infomative signs all around the zoo. The reptile house good, I like the collection that they have(but I don't remember all the species they have).

The zoo is trying to get the county to provide additional acreage to build a drive through African savanna ride. Considering they are near Disney Animal Kingdom, this makes absolutely no sense to me. I am all for expansion, but why try to replicate something 30 miles away (and replicate it in an undoubtedly inferior way)? Why not give people a reason to visit the zoo by doing something totally different? How about a tropical animal canoe ride or a predator walk or ??? The area they are in is so lush, it completely lends itself to a rainforest them - not a savanna.

Probally because locals do not want to spend 90 dollars every time they want to see animals on a safari ride. Also basically every Florida zoo has some kind of ride were you can see animals so they just wanted to have a cheaper version of the other ones.

Quite right, an excellent looking exhibit. Can I ask why otters always seem to get some of the best designed/most aesthetically pleasing exhibits?

Good observation...I'd guess because they are relatively inexpensive exhibits (barriers low, small size) so dollars go farther. And because they arent too hard on their environment.

I can only think of a handful of sub-par otter exhibits, but the rest as some of the best designed exhibits I know.
