from todays visit,

Anteaters in new enclosure, spoke to a couple of keepers who said it was the first time she had been out, she wandered around for about 10 mins with baby on her back very cute

Brow Antlered Deer have young :D

She was out and about with the baby when myself and Hel arrived via the pedestrian entrance - with the exception of the yellow mongooses they were the first animals we saw!

How nice to see them,i bet she soon vanished when more people started to appear.Where they were before,it was a it quieter and not close to the path.so they are not used to seeing many people so close.

Noticed today that neither the Red-billed Currasow or the Green Wood Hoopoe are on-show at Chester any more.
Also the Emerald Tree Boa has been taken off-show in the Tropical Realm, but is still labelled in its exhibit, but a Eye lash Pit Viper is currently on-show instead. Also at long last the Poison Dart Frogs in the Glass stand alone vivs are now labelled.

actually thinking about it - I did see Kirana abeit briefly when Fabi was up on the platform top she was mooching by the den entrance - not for long though.

I can see I'm going to have to be careful of my conversations - I don't think I've met you so I can't place what you look like sorry!

oh sorry we were on the eaza walk and talk. Was going to say hi but didnt want to interupt x

Updates from today...

Female Giant Anteater was offshow today due to the construction of another (larger) termite mound. This one has a viewing window allowing visitors to watch the Anteater using there tounges to reach the food inside.

I cannot confirm whether Kirana (Sumatran Tiger) has given birth or not, but she is now offshow and apparently settled into her cubbing den. Fabi however, was outside today

The wrongly labelled Eyelash Pit Viper has been like that for about 6/7 weeks. Maybe it's just tempory while the Spirit of the Jaguar is closed. You would have thought they would have transfered the sign though.

At the beginning of September the Zoo reported on their Facebook page that the exhibit was designed for Eyelash vipers so I imagine they will be staying..

Chester Zoo was featured on BBC's Blue Peter today. Presenter Helen spent the day working with the zoo's nutritionalist feeding a Hornbill, Red Panda, Visyan Warty Pig and a Komodo Dragon.
You can view the segment here if you live in the Uk BBC iPlayer - Blue Peter: 25/10/2011

The segments starts at 14 minutes.

I have to say the mouse milkshake looked vile hehe

it was the sound of the bones crunching up as the food processor pulsed that was a bit 'bleugh'

I was surprised how aloof 'Eliza' the Hornbill was too - apparently she's normally a bot of a tart?!?

Maybe the decided drop in quality of Blue Peter presenters has not gone un-noticed by her either

Eliza is far from "creepy", she's a lovely bird and if she takes to you, will actually regurgitate a grape as a gift. Whenever I've been in the aviary with her, she's always been gentle and friendly, almost sitting on my shoulder at one point. Perhaps, as karoocheetah suggests, she was passing comment on the quality of current Blue Peter presenters!

The Blue Peter segment was shot a while ago because she's moved home since.

Interesting to see the bird kitchen in the Tropical Realm looking so tidy!

Bring back Valerie Singleton, John Noakes and Peter Purvis!
