Is the zoo phasing out the Sacilia turtles? I hope that they don't.

Same question for the Tuatara.

What does 'Management under review' mean?

Thanks for putting them up Rob, especially the collection plan above. Shame the zoo only has 3 Gemsboks at the moment, it makes sense now why i wasnt seeing them in large numbers.

Hornbill, I think it would mean that the management of the species will be changed in an attempt to get them to breed. I doubt that they will go out of Sacalia turtles or tuatara.

Sacalia are listed as category 1b which is – Taxa that are in imminent danger of extinction (locally or globally) and are being managed in captivity as part of the recommended* conservation action.

Tuatara are listed as a species for research
as follows,

• A species undergoing clearly defined pure or applied research that increases knowledge of natural history, population
biology, taxonomy, husbandry, disease, health management etc.

and are classed as category 1e - Conservation (Education) – Taxa that encourages understanding of conservation issues and people’s individual roles in them, and where possible makes direct links with in situ work, preferably the Zoo’s own.

Zoomania, Chester are looking for a male Gemsbok.

tuatara

If Chester zoo is not interested in tuatara , they should put it under the export section and give them to another zoo that would want them . Theres not a huge abundance of them in Great Britain/Europe , is there ?

They are still considered rare enough in NZ that most people have only seen them in zoos

thanks for putting them online, bongorob!

a couple of things:
- I hadn't realised the ring-tail lemur numbers had gotten so low (I know some went to Russia, but not that many)
- good to notice the Sitatunga numbers are so healthy (I also never noticed the number of blackbuck and brow-antlered deer before)
- I wonder why the possible import list does not mention the new Onagers and camels.
- I wonder if the chimp subgroup could be heading to Edinburgh?

The Onagers and Camels info came out after the annual report had gone to the printers for printing, soa s you can see even the info printed in the annual report can be out of date by the time it arrives threw a members letterbox.

I'm sure they intend to keep the tuatara, after making a huge effort to obtain them.

Will more Ring Tailed Lemurs and Pudu be brought in aswell?

There is an error in the data for the lemues

at the start of the year 19.12

bred 2007 4.2.1 = 23.14.1

DNS 1 = 23.14

died 1.0 = 22.14

disposed 22 = 14

stock end of year 14

This should read 22.14, but this leaves a mystery as to how many were sent to Russia, which they obviously were as it was filmed for Zoo Days.

What seems to be 14.0.1 is in effect 22.14.0 and the 1 is actually a Roman numeral I indicating a CITES I listing.

Can somone explain what all the .1 0.1, or 0.2 of 1.0 and all that means i don't understand it?!

These refer to the genders of the species kept.

For example:
1.1 equates to 1 male and 1 female
1.2.1 equals 1 male, 2 females and 1 unknown

but what does 0.1 and 0.2 and the rest of thm mean? Im sorry this is just confusing to me lol. and why do people say it like that?

the first number is male, the second female and the third is unknown sex. So 1.1 means one male, one female; 0.1 means no males and one female; 0.0.1 means one animal of unknown sex. Using numbers reduces the teadiousness of writing out "one male and one female and three of unknown sex" or whatever the ratios are. Its just for the sake of simplicity (and saves space on forms)
