Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Autumn 2014

I'm at Chester zoo now and there are 2 sloths on display. Anyone got any info, thought the male had died and my past couple of visits no sloths have been on display.

The male had died, new male brought in to make a pair again.

There is a banteng calf on show but I didn't see the anoa calf. although a woman standing next to me was convinced she had, saying to someone "it's the calf that was in the news, it's the world's smallest cow."

1.1 Javan Rhinoceros Hornbills are in the elephant house aviary.

The Visyan Tarictic Hornbills had a couple of chicks in the Islands in Danger part a week ago too - meant to say!

1.1 Javan Rhinoceros would be nice!

:)

Confirmed in the new Z magazine that Oni the Aardvark is from Antwerp

Also included is an interesting article about the off show colony of Naked mole rats. Mentioned is the fact the longer term plan is to build an exhibit which will allow them to be displayed

Almost not worth going to Chester Zoo if you're interested in bird these days...

I can't say I agree - Chester has one of the best collections of starlings and hornbills in the UK (eight and six taxa respectively), and certainly the best collection of pigeons in the UK - a total of 15 taxa!

And that is just off the top of my head.....

But they no longer have Green Jays......

:D

Shall we take that as an indication not to bother taking you to Chester when you visit the UK? :p

Yes, said animal is the entire reason I'd want to visit Chester in the first place. Sure, Forest Buffalo and Visayan Spotted Deer are cool animals, but it's all about that Green Jay, even if Bronx holds the exact same species/subspecies:D

You are a man of extremely focused interests :p I'll give you that.

They could be replaced with another Neotropical jay species.

And they still have bongos. :D

birds out: green jay, Dalmatian pelican

birds in: pink pigeon, maybe others before the end of the year
