Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Discussion and Questions 2022

They are in Islands / other enclosures around the zoo
I wish people would be more careful in how and what they post. Now it just looked like they had vanished from the collection (in does not make sense going back past threads to look for the further details)l

Does anyone know what happened to kitanis half sister manyara because I haven't seen her in a while has she passed or moved on because last time I saw her was 2015

In fairness the first reply re: the Cattle House does state that an anoa is currently housed there.

She was sent to Folly's Farm back in October 2015, as it was discovered she was infertile.

The two netted enclosures in ROTRA I did see him at the top of the first netted enclosure by the entrance in August and I've also seen him in the netted enclosure by the exit you'd be very lucky to see him because he spends most of the time in the sheltered bit of the first netted enclosure but you can't look in anymore when the silvery gibbons were there temporarily due to the fire their used to be a small opening so you could look into it

Brilliant thank you! I can't picture it at all, but I will have a look when I am next there. I only found out he was still alive, but reading a post on here a few weeks ago!

Does any one know what happened to sareiki the bornean orangutan's son iznee because I haven't seen him for a while

I've been going through old Chester annual reports, in former times they were interesting.

Included were Chairman's report, Director's report, Membership report, Junior membership report, Curators' reports, Maintenance reports, and the one I miss the most - animal inventories (which the zoo now seems to consider to be a state secret).

Even things such as a new telephone system, new cash registers and new drainage systems got a mention.

Up until 1982 they even published a veterinary report.

Same at Paignton :(

I don't claim this list is 100% accurate but I can remember

New Guinea twin-wattled cassowary
red kangaroo
Beisa oryx
scimitar-horned oryx
gemsbok
East African roan antelope
Ankole cattle
onager
kulan
onager x kulan
zebroid (Grevy's zebra x horse)
warthog
Congo buffalo
lowland anoa
Malayan tapir
Negros warty pig
Grant's zebra
Grevy's zebra
babirusa

Also for one day only, 11th April 1989 on the occasion of the visit of HRH The Princess of Wales - a group of school children. They may have been junior members. I can't say for sure because they were not labelled. :p
All the above.... AND Dexter Cattle (Whilst the children's farm was being built)

I am planning to get back up to Chester Zoo at some point next month. I was wondering if you still have to pre book tickets as I was told we might not need to anymore?

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...nt-03022022/&usg=AOvVaw0bqFg92m7vlynZpCVHQu49 Why is Ang Bo being used as the Guinea Pig? EEHV affects Elephant Calf’s/Youngsters. I doubt very much this trial will be accurate as Aung Bo is a fully grown mature breeding bull. To my knowledge the at risk age range is 1-8 years old. Despite this the risk of contracting EEHV rapidly decreases after the age of 4.

In the initial trial they need to check if the vaccine produces an immune response and doesn't cause severe side effects. That doesn't require it to be an at-risk animal, particularly. What it does require is a co-operative animal..!
