Lucy is from Chester; it's Lima who has been renamed.
The male Andean Bear Turbo, went to Germany.
Apologies if its a silly question, but why would they rename her? I don't really understand the point, especially because she's from a relatively local collection
What lemurs are still in the walkthrough ?We went yesterday after not been since April 2024.
There's now what seems to be a permanent fence in front of the Black Lemur enclosure window.
Anyone know why this would be? We thought it was because people would bang the glass, but their next door neighbors, the black/white Belted Lemurs, didn't have this fencing in front of their window.
There's now only 3 species in the Lemur Walkthrough, the rest has been moved onto the island.
Also 4 Bush Dog pups or around 6-7 weeks old.
And after desperately trying to spot the Okapi youngster back in 2023 and unsuccessful after many visits, I finally got to see the latest edition. It is just a stunning looking animal!
Haven't seen the new bit yet, we thought we'd focus on familiar things first, but we'll be back in 2 weeks for the rest.
I think it's ring tails, black/white and red ruffed (?) The black and the crowned aren't and they were the reason I would go through the walkthrough so haven't bothered since found out they were no longer in there. What lemurs are still in the walkthrough ?
Hold on, theres bush dog pups?! Thats amazing!!
It's a huge shame if that is true. It could be possible they've even found some already since they must've known Iblis was getting on in age, and he's been under vet care for a little whileIts a shame to hear about the passing of Iblis. I hope they can find some new lions soon. I've heard many collections are going out of Asiatic lions but I dont know how true that is
As already said a shame that the crowned, red bellied and black Lemurs were moved to the Island
I remember last year one of the volunteers told me they were stressed from the noise from the evening lanterns event such a shame the animals didn’t get priority, apologies if I spoke out of turn
The zoo have now said they will be getting new lions at some point in the (near?) future. Anyone have any ideas where they will be coming from ?It's a huge shame if that is true. I was wondering this myself. Especially since its been such a rough year for asiatic lions in Europe. About 5 deaths with only one surviving cub born. The zoo have now said they will be getting new lions at some point in the (near?) future. Anyone have any ideas where they will be coming from ?
They could also decide to build the komodo house in Islands, as originally planned, the area is still unused, allowing there current house to be used for Madagascar speciesI agree too.
There’s so much potential for the zoo to create an amazing Madagascar zone and I really hope this could be something that gets fast tracked in the next few years. There is so much space around the current Madagascar area to expand into. The number of species currently held (both off and on show) but spread across different parts of the zoo is surely unrivalled in the UK ? How many other zoos in Europe even hold such a diverse range of Madagascar species?
Chester does so much in-situ conservation work in Mandagascar so it makes sense they should highlight this in the zoo. I’m sure that planning has already been given to knock down the old gift shop and staff canteen to create something new and exciting and there is so much opportunity to use the existing lemur islands in a more visitor viewing friendly way.
