Chester Zoo Game

all very very good answers, and I like the reasoning behind them all (which was why I wanted people to include these).

However none of them are correct.

Gentle lemur is on the right track though.

Next clue: the animal is neither bird nor mammal.

I’ll have a stab at Tuatara.

Why - because reading the previous guesses (by Gentle Lemur) gave me a clue (Albert). A chap called Albert Gunter classified the tuatara species creating the order Rhynchocephalia.
Also as they are endemic to New Zealand which although not very ‘Batmany’ may have swayed your choice of species choice…..?

one should never stab at tuatara!

I am afraid you are incorrect with your guess, although the implication you give that New Zealand is awesome, like Batman, is accurate.

The species does not have anything to do with Alfred (or New Zealand).

I did?, I need to sit down and rest then.
I was going to say the answer was a humboldt penguin for the obvious batman reasons, but then you said it wasn't a mammal..:p

I'm off to bed now, so one more clue to see you through until my morning:

The species is native to Asia.

Grevy's Zebra because I remember them fighting a lot when I last visited (must be 6 or 7 years ago- that's the problem with not being able to drive (too young) and relying on your parents taking you).

Or Blackbuck because they have black in their names but they have a white circle around their eye.

Hello Chlidonias. It isn't a white-eye.

Macaw16 - It isn't a blackbuck, but your idea of a Grevy's zebra is on the right lines, but not the right stripes.

African wild dog, as the dark fur around the eye can really look like a black eye at times

A jaguar?

the eyes on the coat are not black eyes, plus your 'clue' that the zebra guess was on the right lines but not the right stripes.

Hello all, perhaps I was being too cryptic.

The animal isn't a jaguar, spectacled caiman, spectacled bear, baby anoa, African wild dog or cheetah.

Perhaps "it isn't a black black eye" may be more helpful.
