Female Jaguar, Sofia has been relocated from Chester to Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent today. Leaving the left hand side of SOJ empty once again

The caecilian tank in the Tropical House was screened off.

The caecilians were back on show as normal on Saturday - looks like the tank has had a tidy up.

How peculiar, as I saw her in there on Tuesday with no idea she was about to leave.

I have a couple of questions from my Chester visit for any regulars.

1. Which two Black rhinos(male and female) are currently on display in the Tsavo House?.

2. I only saw one female Okapi and a separated half grown young one. Is there currently no male?

3. Where have the Blackbuck gone- would it be Knowsley by any chance?;)

1.Magadi and Kitani

2. The males are the young calf,Usala, Dicky and another male whos name I can't think of off the top of my head :P

3. I haven't seen them since the start of the year when they where on the hardstand

Hope this helps

Thanks. I couldn't see a notch in the ear of the female as the signboard identified Kitani. Re the Okapi I couldn't figure out where another(male) could be kept without my being able to see it.

There are off-show stalls at the Tropical House end of the Okapi building, from behind the Gabon viper's exhibit to the end. There is also separate off-show housing behind the giraffe house with access to the outdoor enclosures which can be seen from the path on the other side of the canal, from the Butterfly House to the Bridge leading to the Tropical House.
On Tim's Walk and Talk sessions he often asks us to identify the rhinos. I am utterly useless at this, but only a few ZooChatters get them right. I suspect they move them round each day to keep us guessing :)

Thanks. I didn't know about the latter.

Re the Rhinos- because of the paddock arrangement and offshow areas I only saw about half of what they have- the two in the Tsavo house, a mother and calf in the paddock with the 'small' building- is that Zuri from Paignton? and one in the distance in the offshow area.

It can change from day to day, and all the rhinos have access to indoor areas (off-show, except for the Tsavo House). The day before your visit I saw three rhinos in the paddock of the old Rhino House, next to the wart hogs; I think they may have been the immature stock.
