Chester Zoo Chester Zoo news 2025

I think if the zoo did end up acquiring Pangolins, they would most likely be at the site of the old meerkat habitat since there isn’t anything there at the moment.

You can't get to the old meerkat habitat with the new layout. Somebody stated that they are going to use this for the meerkat experiences.

I think they are still in quarantine.
Talked to two keepers/volunteers that both confirmed they were still planned to go in the space next to the porcupines and have already arrived but are currently in quarantine but should hopefully be introduced reasonably soon.

does anyone know about the dwarf mongoose that should be mixed with the Aardvark according to the map in the zoo? Didn’t see any signage on the exhibit but it would definitely help make that corner of HoA more interesting, with both Hunting Dogs and Aardvark being frequent no shows

With all the pangolin signage and education it wouldn't surprise if if the plan was to hold them in the future.

Aren't a lot of the captive breeding efforts focused on the Asian pangolin species? Although, I presume if they're successful with those guys, they're going to move onto the rest of them...

(Presumably, these'd originate from rescued adults...)

That was my thought... the main reason that they are not held is because of the poor breeding record. Though with how Brookfield and Prague have managed to change fortunes with their pangolins this may change

I totally agree with you there and seeing that I have never seen this species in person before either.
From what I understand in zoos they are shy animals... they need a big paddock and usually stay a good distance from the visitors. Not sure how showy they'll be at Chester

They were kept where the snow leopards are, I saw them several times and visitors did not seem to bother them.

If you remember, I was this close to seeing them about 3 years ago in the old Bongo enclosure, they were nowhere to be seen but there was still signage for the Blesbok but they could have already been moved offshow just before my visit.

Speaking from experience, Whipsnade’s Blesbok aren’t particularly showy either-and they’ve had them for nearly 10 years now!
