I don’t think Chester’s rebranding will be linked to South Lakes’ struggles in any way at all.I think that combined with recent news regarding a certain Northern zoo once again having significant husbandry problems and giving ammunition to the anti-zoo crowd Chester probably thought it logical to change name too
I disagree, perhaps not the more recent events but there have been several instances involving South Lakes in the past decade that have further stoked the anti-zoo press in this country. Even recently their social media pages were full of comments from people parroting headlines.I don’t think Chester’s rebranding will be linked to South Lakes’ struggles in any way at all.
I'm just repeating what I'd been told in early 2023 by a keeper at Whipsnade regardless, obviously ZSL and Chester are separate entities but one can imagine there's a certain amount of crossover in thinking.
Chester Zoo Rebrand, Web Design & Web Build
On the font showcase gif/video where it's going through different species the zoo has, why is Quokka on there? Following the import to EU last year, might they be going the same direction or did the designers look for one random species to add? Chances are low but one can hope
The new design is also growing on me a bit, excited to see the new map look the most

Expensive and two years! Wow!A little bit of digging, it was done by how and how designChester Zoo Rebrand, Web Design & Web Build if you click on the read more close to the top it gives there mission brief ect and yes it’s supposed to be a rhino and they have worked on this for two years so yes it expensive
I have heard that the exact opposite. The zoo has invested a great deal in the new African project, hoping that it will draw in the crowds when it opens next year.Lots of money swilling about to find a home for though, I suppose.
Expensive and two years! Wow!
Neat and simple, yes - and an improvement on what went before, certainly in my opinion.
But, an hour or two to pick through some fonts and a couple of days to draw a 'C' with a spike inside, ought to have done it.
Lots of money swilling about to find a home for though, I suppose.
I've always found the handwritten font to be quite easy to understand, and I suppose it links to the family-owned nature of the zoo quite nicely.
You'd need to be very old to remember a family-owned Chester Zoo!
The new logo is a custom "C" and within it is a hidden counter form, inspired by a Rhino horn. The reason for this, is that it recalls the zoo history of supporting critically endangered Eastern Black Rhino. It's efforts date back to 1999 with the breeding of a rare calf.Just saw this - a bit uninspired, I thought...?
Is the 'C' meant to be a rhino?
