They're in the hardstanding at the back of the zebra/oryx house (the (former) Pere David's Deer yard, in my head!).
The latest exhibition for the Joseph Banks room has been announced as a display on climate change. Called "Hot Pink Flamingos" it will open to public on 23rd July. Further details below

The Reserved Matters Planning Application for the Islands project has now been submitted and is viewable through the Planning Portal.

There's plenty of detailed drawings and docs (about 100!). No big surprises or changes from previous outline info, though the quality of the design of buildings and landscape is very impressive.
On page 10 of the Design and Access Statement is (presumably) the latest version of the zoo master plan, which looks better than previous; the Vast Asian Plains zone in the middle of the zoo is now 'Foothills and Floodplains' and the Experience Cheshire' zone no longer takes up half the east zoo

Brief news from this evening: elephants Sitami and Sundara confirmed as pregnant, with due dates around New Year. Also an interesting admission from the senior members of the elephant team that in their opinion Chester's facility is currently "over capacity", and that the new arrivals will raise issues regarding future herd management.
The replacement bull is being sourced from Spain, and the zoo might be in a position to choose which, stud book recommendation not withstanding.

So 'Sundara' is finally expecting her first offspring which is good news! There is a nice family set up at Chester (Thi- Jamilah and Sithami- Sundara and Nayan and now two new calves). Sithami's previous offspring are 'Sundara' (With 'Upali') and 'Nayan' (Also with 'Upali'). Has 'Jangoli' or 'Thi' been confirmed pregnant either yet?

The land they are on is not part of Islands so they will stay where they are until their exhibit is built.
The plans would beg to differ on that. They show the paddock behind the Zebra/Oryx as the location for the new restaurant and part of the Sulawesi area of the project.

Well in that case a stand corrected,so in that case they will probably build the Banteng exhibit in Islands,as one of the first things to be built,and then move them over to their new home so that they can then start work on that area,once they have moved them.

Chester's Elephant exhibit.
That's an interesting point regarding the space. I find it hard to believe that Chester's Elephant exhibit is "over capacity" with them currently holding 1.6 plus another two on the way. A few years ago they had a group of around ten or more Elephants a few years back (Upali- Sheba- Thi- Jangolie- Maya- Sithami- Sundara- Raman- Birma- Tunga). With the two new births they still have only ten Elephants and also with that, no actual breeding bull.

It's going to be a few years before either of the current youngsters can be moved on to other collections. With two more due in 6 to 9 months, further arrivals will be too much.
As well as the new developments, are there any plans to improve the facilities already at the zoo?

Only 'Nayan' will move on. The female 'Jamilah' should stay at Chester for the rest of her life, only young bulls will move on and the females will stay in a family unit consisting of aunties, cousins etc.
Jamilah might be staying, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that Chester has the space to or intension of keeping every cow they breed....
Could anybody with contact to Chester Zoo find out what the plans concerning orang utan Kevin really are?
It sounds all a bit contradictory.
The Berlin Zoo claims that Chester wanted a contribution for a new enclosure (refused), and that Kevin would be brought to Chester after the Blackpool orangs had been there.
The Blackpool Orangs are still in Blackpool. Would they be, if there is a new enclosure almost ready? And is there space enough for them without one?
If no new enclosure is under construction now, how could Kevin be transfered already in springtime?
Kevin has been kept all by himself for 4 years in the cage for the sick on the roof of Berlin Zoo.
Please can anybody help with information?!
Yes, the facility was originally designed for 2.8 + 5 offspring, however they cannot keep female past this. If they have more females than males over the next few years then some will have to move on.
