Chester Zoo Chester Zoo updates *3

Just returned from the Zoo. The big news is that the giant otters indoor pool is fenced off and there are notices saying that they may have cubs!
I didn't see or hear the adults in the outdoor section, and when I walked past again at about 4pm a very pretty young lady was leaning on the fencing overlooking the seating area with a clipboard and a walkie-talkie. I asked politely if she was on watch and she said that she had seen the adults from time to time, but had seen no sign of cubs (which is probably as it should be). I wished her luck.
Keep your fingers crossed :)

Excellent news. Myself and another zoochatter were recently only discussion of our hopes for Chester to have Giant Otter pups. I was hoping that they'd be South Lakes' to the chase after theirs were seen nesting recently by a friend of mine.

Although obvious for a while, the okapi pregnancy was mentioned at the AGM this evening. Due date is some time in September.

Does anyone have an update on when the okapi birth is due? I'm planning a visit to Chester this autumn and want to ensure that it takes place after the event!

Thanks:)

No further updates sorry - she was still very round this weekend apparently.

I wouldn't plan anything until towards the end of 2012 tbh...
IF the birth is successful then I'd be expecting the calf to be off show for at least a couple of weeks (probably a minimum of 30 days before they make any announcement) following it's birth.

I think it was 13 at the last count, could be more. Chilean breeding season has only just started

Thanks Karoocheetah and Nisha for the updates - keeping everything crossed for a successful outcome.

According to someone on Twitter Sky News are showing Bali the python being 'moved from Chester Zoo' - anyone know anything?

Yes, now if the tweet had accurately stated she was moving "within about 6 ft of her enclosure" rather than 'FROM Chester Zoo..."!

She is pretty impressive though.

Ha ha...that's the problem with restricting characters hey!?
She is indeed a big beautiful snake.
